Remember back on June 8th I had the whole story about Willie Nelson's Texas pot troubles finally officially being over?
Yeah, psyche!
It appears that Willie's not in fact out of the woods just yet.
Why? Because he's a celebrity apparently.
According to Reuters, Judge Becky Dean-Walker said today that she wouldn't sign off on Willie's plea deal because she didn't want to be seen as being too lenient on a celebrity.
"I'm not going to be guilty of signing something because someone is a celebrity," Dean-Walker told Reuters.
Back in June, Willie had agreed to plead no contest to a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and would pay a fine of $500 and court costs of around $280 to make the case go away.
Well apparently Willie was getting off a little too easily for the "severity" of his crime and Judge Dean-Walker wasn't having it on on her watch.
Those damn hippy California judges may be easy on celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, but apparently Texas judges take their jobs more seriously!
After signing her name, Judge Dean-Walker read the charges more closely, decided Willie's pot possession was a more serious offense than she originally thought, scratched out her name, and sent the case back to County Attorney C.R. Bramblett. Bramblett is the C.A. who had originally charged Willie with a felony and then later agreed to the plea deal.
Well I know someone who's not going to be on Willie Nelson's Christmas Card list.
As of this afternoon, there's no word on what the County Attorney's next move will be.
Gotta love when the justice system spends months and months and bunches of tax payer dollars on the really important cases, eh?
