‘Nashville’, Episode 13 – RECAP

130212_TVC_Nashville_BrittonHuisman.jpg.CROP.multipart-medium

Rayna falls apart a bit this week, after Teddy’s announcing that he wants a divorce. She is terrified of telling her daughters in the knowledge that it’ll ruin their childhoods. Struggling to keep going with the tour, it just so happens that Liam is staying in the same hotel, and during a post-show party he turns up to he shows his concern for Rayna. He offers to help her forget her troubles and so Rayna goes off to a bar with him to get drunk and dance. A few shots down the line she spills all the things that are going on in her life, and after being spotted by a couple of elderly fans they decide to go back to the hotel. Liam kisses her outside his hotel room and even though Rayna stops it and freaks out at her cheating, Liam persuades her it’s okay. She follows him inside his room, clearly under the knowledge they’ll sleep together and she appears very nervous at commiting adultery. Heading to the bathroom, she ends up crying, and when Liam goes looking for her they sit down and have a heart to heart. It doesn’t seem like they sleep together, but when the next morning comes and Rayna is hungover, Deacon spots them in the hotel lobby chatting and giggling together and, expecting the worst, he snaps at her getting into the tour bus, clearly feeling betrayed after his kiss with Rayna in the previous episode.

‘Nashville’, Episode 12 – RECAP

Nashville12

The fallout from last week’s episode of Deacon joining the tour as Juliette’s guitar player continues as the group land in Chicago for two sold-out shows. After Deacon lets on to Juliette on a couple of occasions he’s overwhelmed with the amount of entourage her tour comes with, Juliette starts to feel like she doesn’t want to do her whole ‘brand’ thing anymore and she wants to get more serious, despite the warnings of her manager. She writes a song with Deacon called ‘Consider Me’ that is more in line with that musical ethos and Deacon tells her that “there’s thinking about something, and there’s just doing it”, which appears to be the running theme for this episode. Because of this, Juliette decides to begin her second night’s set with the stripped down song as a surprise, that not even Deacon knows about. Her manager is livid but the performance appears to go really well. Back in the dressing room Juliette hears of thousands of angry tweets slamming her performance, including an important reviewer. She mulls over them until her assistant, who really enjoyed the song, shows her the love on YouTube and everything is righted, making Juliette more determined than ever to do what she wants.

Rayna is also having a difficult time, trying to adjust to Deacon being on the tour after being knocked back by him again and again, whilst facing the wrath of Teddy over the phone who’s convinced it was Rayna’s idea. Deacon mostly refuses to speak to her, and there are several awkward elevator scenes, until Juliette’s manager confronts Deacon after finding out her convinced Juliette to perform ‘Consider Me’. He says that Deacon has no business telling her the distinctions between thinking and doing, and that all he had ever seen Deacon do is think. Straight after this, Deacon gets in the same elevator as Rayna and BAM! He passionately kisses her (with her kissing back) and every fan of the couple melted (including me).

‘Nashville’, Episode 11 – RECAP

Nashville-s1ep11-blog

Excited for Nashville tonight? If you haven’t seen the promo for episode 12 that we’ve waited 2 weeks for, check it out here (it’s gonna be a huge one!). This is what happened in episode 11.

The episode launches in with the incredible yet unexpected sexual tension of Rayna and Liam and Juliette getting annoyed at them for going off into their own little world on stage and ignoring her during performances (plus some fiery intimate moments off-stage!). In addition, Calista, the entrepreneurial head of her own label, approaches Rayna and wants to sign her, putting in a visit to Rayna’s home in Nashville and pushing the flexibility and creativity and freedom Rayna would enjoy at a new label. Rayna almost considers it, until it is revealed at Edge Hill’s party to celebrate ‘Wrong Song’ hitting number 1 that Liam, who is already signed to Calista as a producer, would enjoy significant benefits from getting Rayna on board too, and that’s why he’s been pushing it as best for her. Rayna is furious and ends their partnership, livid at the accurate insinuation that they were more than just business partners/friends. Teddy sees the argument ensue and questions Rayna of any extra-marital goings-on while she’s on tour, considering the failing state of their marriage that they have discussed earlier in the episode. Rayna is upset because she has insisted they are trying to fix things, not headed for divorce, and assures Teddy nothing will happen.

Meanwhile, there’s some really juicy tension and banter between Rayna and Juliette, that is really adding to the show’s appeal. Juliette is furious because Rayna is getting far more attention and credit for writing Wrong Song. She is also caught up with her mother’s impending hearing, but with the slanderous magazine publication of Deacon supposedly falling off the wagon, he feels it is not appropriate that he speak for Jolene at the hearing. Therefore he asks Juliette to do it, to speak from the heart, but she cannot manage more than the very basic facts of her mother being addicted to drugs for many years. As a result Jolene is told to finish rehab and there’ll be another hearing, but with a free day out of rehab Deacon persuades Juliette to allow her mother to come with him as his date to Edge Hill’s party. At the party, Jolene seems so much more sober and normal, but her talking to people and taking food from waiters’ platters angers Juliette, who is intent on keeping her out of ‘trouble’.

Blake Shelton to play Reba's brother on "Malibu Country"

REBA and blake
Blake Shelton did a little acting in his recent Christmas special, but now he's ready to take the plunge and make his real-to-goodness acting debut.

The Huffington Post is reporting that Blake will be appearing on Reba McEntire's show "Malibu Country" next month and will be playing her brother. From The Huffington Post:

Blake Shelton is heading to "Malibu Country."

HuffPost TV can exclusively reveal that Shelton will play Reba McEntire's brother on the ABC comedy. "The Voice" coach will appear in the Friday, March 1 episode. The "Malibu Country" cast also includes Lily Tomlin as Reba's mother and Sara Rue as Kim, Reba's neighbor.

In October, McEntire told ETOnline that she was courting Shelton for a guest role.

"I've already talked to Blake [Shelton] and Kelly [Clarkson] and they said ... that they would appear, so we just got to get the script right when we need 'em in here," she said.

No word on whether this will be a recurring role or a one-time appearance for Blake, but either way it's sure to be a fun time.

‘Nashville’, Episode 10 – RECAP

Nashville-episode-10-1

The drama continued last week with episode 10 of 22 airing on our screens, so naturally as with any other week, I’m on hand to recap everything for you. It’s like I’m doing a service to humanity.

In Episode 10 Rayna and Juliette begin their tour together, ‘Red Lips And White Lies’. They’ve been doing small shows, and are about to do their first big show, where all the creases should have been ironed out. After abandoning her ‘official’ wedding, Juliette is trying to divorce Sean, but he wants an annulment instead. Juliette is furious as she doesn’t want to take back that they were married, however briefly, and wants it to stand as a mistake that she can learn from. However, after a confrontation between the two of them where Sean states that he only wants to be married once (no doubt due to his faith), Juliette retracts her petition for divorce and agrees to the annulment. She apologies and explains her actions but Sean still condemns her, saying that now he knew her he didn’t like her at all, in so many words. Considering the person Juliette is, I have a feeling this is going to hit her hard in the coming episodes, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she started to downward-spiral.

Meanwhile Rayna is struggling with going out on her first tour since losing Deacon as her guitar player. She isn’t happy with the performances of the first two guitar players, and after firing one and the other quitting, she eventually convinces her producer Liam to join them for a few shows. He is begrudging, so as a gift she buys him a pair of expensive cowboy boots. He tells her that it’s not his thing, and that he isn’t Deacon, or anything like him, and that she is scared of going out on stage and having things feel differently without Deacon.  Rayna is also having difficulties adjusting in her marriage and initially doesn’t want to join Teddy and her daughters for the night of the election. After all things considered, she goes to surprise them, to witness Teddy winning the election. Prior to this it was deemed to be neck-and-neck between Teddy and Coleman, and it is suspected that Lamar may have bought some votes against Teddy’s will in order to get him to win. I can see this blowing up in weeks to come.

‘Nashville’ Episode 9 – RECAP

130453-1428-ful-jpg_183645

Nashville is back! Hooray! The hit TV show graced our screens once again last Wednesday, and oh were we glad to see it. A month is a long time in a love affair with a fictional narrative. Am I right? Either way, tonight sees episode 10 pick up where 9 left off, and thus we need a recap of 9, naturally. Here we go.

Well, let’s start with the big news! Juliette gets married! And she and the good, Christian boy Sean elope, and appear to have sex for the first time in the back of a cab. How very Gossip Girl. Juliette wants to keep it quiet, but, like all the news in this town, it gets out to Sean’s family, who aren’t too pleased but decide to arrange a church wedding, to authorize it before God. Under pressure from Sean’s overbearing mother who hates her, Juliette agrees to invite her mother, who is still in rehab. Sean then organizes for them both to meet with Jolene but Juliette decides to go alone. Her mother seems much more normal, but she questions Juliette’s choice to get married so quickly, talking about the hole inside both of them that cannot be filled. Juliette gets angry and storms off. The wedding goes ahead as planned, but the end of the episode reveals her in her beautiful wedding dress in the wedding car, being driven to... to... the airport. Not the church, where Sean and all their guests are waiting. Oh dear.

Alongside this, the news we’ve all being talking about – Rayna and Juliette’s tour. Rayna wants desperately to release her new album she’s been working on with Liam, but the popularity of ‘Wrong Song’ calls for a studio version, and the tour will help both of them rekindle their career. In addition, she just wants to get away from Teddy and the failing of her marriage, which, if we remember, was in tatters after she found out about Teddy’s lying, and Peggy tried to kill herself. While Peggy is heard to be fine, Rayna decides to start the tour earlier than scheduled, in a few days, and tells Teddy she’s taking the girls with her. He is furious and tells Tandy in his distress, who joins Lamar in confronting Rayna at her house. Lamar threatens to “tell Maddie who her real father is” at which point Rayna kicks him out. She then comes to tell Teddy at his work, where Lamar also is, and upon hearing what Lamar has said Teddy explodes and really yells at Lamar, as he has always known who Maddie’s real father is (Deacon, surely? I swear I predicted this!). While Rayna is very grateful, she later says she loves Teddy, but she knows neither of them are happy. She decides to go out on tour but leave the girls in school, seeing them when she can, as she and Teddy need the space to figure things out.

People’s Choice Awards 2013: Let’s Pan To Taylor Swift

2682999-taylor-swift-peoples-choice-awards-2-2013-617-409

The People’s Choice Awards were last night (if you didn’t know you may want to check your surroundings and make sure you’re not doing a Patrick from Spongebob and living under a rock) and of course, an award show is nothing without a winners list. Now, I was not previously aware that the PCAs only have one country category. I was all ready to give you a winners list, but err, rather awkwardly, it turns out there’s only one. Taylor Swift. Just for my own amusement, here is the category plus nominees:

Favorite Country Artist

Blake Shelton

Carrie Underwood

Jason Aldean

Taylor Swift - WINNER

Tim McGraw

An interesting array of artists were nominated, and let’s face it, if we’re going for young, commercial country, Tim McGraw seems a bit of a random choice, compared to all the other pop/country artists I’d fully expect them to nominate. However, sadly, I feel like this was a product of some middle-aged music industry idiots in an office going “Err, we have to have a country category. Errr, who have we heard of?” Not that I don’t like Tim McGraw, of course, but for these kind of awards where there’s only one country category and it’s mostly based around pop music, Tim isn’t the most obvious choice.

That aside, considering how popular Taylor is at the pop award shows, I’m hardly surprised she won. Forgetting all personal opinions, she seems much more at home, much happier and much less aloof and more down-to-Earth (see her acceptance here) in the pop world, so doesn’t it make sense to stick to where she clearly belongs? There’s more success and more love for her there. It just makes sense, outside of everything else I have said about her, why still have your foot in the country field (haha, country? Field? Get it?) when you seem to be rather disillusioned with it of late?

I have a feeling that ‘Red’ will complete her genre transition in 2013. But only time will tell.

For winners in all categories including those in movies and television, you can visit the PCA’s website here.

Little Big Town and LeAnn Rimes perform on The X Factor (video)

Little Big Town and LeAnn Rimes took the stage on part one of the season finale for "The X Factor" tonight to perform with two of the remaining contestants - Little Big Town with Tate Stevens and LeAnn Rimes with Carly Rose Sonenclar.

Had to be kind of odd being on stage for LeAnn because back before Britney Spears took her spot as a show judge, LeAnn was rumored to be interested in the job.

The winner of this season's "X Factor" will be crowned tomorrow.
