Each year Christmas comes earlier & earlier with stores advertising at Halloween !!! By time it actually gets her I am a bit over it all; the commercialism seems to swallow up the true meaning & Thanksgiving is all but forgotten. But as I venture to look for some true Christmas spirit I am reminded it is out there in different forms. I thought what I found would help wrap things up on what we may be missing. Enjoy these few selections & Merry Christmas.
Garth Brooks can put on one hell of a show, and I am glad he is back! I was lucky enough to attend the first show on Thursday, and his fifth show last night. His concerts have been titled Garth Brooks - The Rescue Party, and it has been a party! What a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season, and what a wonderful string of events for the city of Nashville. Garth has missed his fans as much as we've missed him. He said that he missed the crowd's reaction to "Calling Baton Rouge" more than anything.
Both shows were a little different but he sang many of his hits between the two nights, "Shameless," "Two Pina Coladas," "Unanswered Prayers," "The Thunder Rolls,"
"Friends in Low Places," "That Summer," “Good Ride Cowboy,” "More than a Memory," "The Dance," “Beaches of Cheyenne,” "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)," "If Tomorrow Never Comes," "Rodeo," "Ain’t Goin’ Down (Til The Sun Comes Up)," and "We Shall Be Free" played with pictures of neighbors helping neighbors during Nashville's flood recovery. Garth was so impressed that the sold out crowds could sing along to every song - even songs that were written before half the audience was even born. There was one little girl shown on the Jumbotron singing along TO EVERY WORD :)
Throughout the night Garth would pause to soak in the roaring crowd. Monday he mentioned that he and the music industry always butt heads, but the community of Nashville and him always got along. He said every time he went through a rough patch his fans were there to pull him out of it, and he is very thankful.
Garth has brought Steve Wariner and Trisha Yearwood out at all the shows. He sang "Longneck Bottle" with Steve Wariner. Trisha has been coming out to sing "In Another's Eyes" with Garth and singing "She's in Love with the Boy."
The concerts are being broadcast to troops overseas on the Armed Forces Network. Before Trisha sang "How Do I Live" they showed some military personnel on the Jumbotron and the audience started chanting, "USA, USA, USA" - man did I get chills!
Other country music artists have been out to support Garth as well. So far Easton Corbin, Charles Kelley, David Nail, Laura Bell Bundy, Reba, and many more have been spotted!
Thursday night's show ended with "Ain’t Goin’ Down (Til The Sun Comes Up)." During Monday night’s show, Garth played a double encore with his band and acoustic - just him and his guitar.
He brought Trisha back out to sing "Walkaway Joe" because an audience member had a request sign - Trisha sang right to the people with the sign - very special.
Garth ended Monday's show by telling everyone to put their arms around each other, sway and sing along to Billy Joel's "Piano Man."
My one complaint - Garth has not performed "Standing Outside the Fire" at any of the shows. Not sure why, but that is one of my favorite Garth songs.
Well done Garth. Thanks for supporting my beloved city of Nashville :)
There's nothing more fun than taking a look inside a celebrity home....unless of course it's seeing that celebrity home all decorated for the holidays.
If you enjoy this as much as I do then mark December 4 on your calendar because HGTV is going inside the home of Trisha and Garth for a holiday special.
Viewers will get a glimpse inside the homes of Dancing with the Stars co-host Brooke Burke, The View’s Sherri Shepherd and country music superstar Trisha Yearwood, as HGTV decorates their homes for the holidays. Whether it’s a country Christmas or a California-inspired theme, viewers will receive incredible holiday décor ideas and decorating tips from designers Brandon Branch, Mike Russo and Sandra Espinet.
Oh crap on a stick. One of my favorite Trisha Yearwood songs is XXX's and OOO'sand come to find out there's a pretty unique story behind that song.....like how it wasn't even supposed to be a real song....and Wynonna was supposed to record it originally....and it was a TV show theme song.
Crazy how one day the world can make sense and the next day you're learning you know absolutely nada about one of your favorite songs.
Trisha Yearwood's new cookbook Home Cooking with Trisha Yearwood was released last week and debuted at #2 on the New York Time's Bestseller list of Advice and How-to books.
Good Job Trisha!

"Garth likes to cook breakfast. It's wonderful to sleep in and wake up to the smell of bacon cooking. Don't be too jealous, but he always has a fresh pot of coffee already made, too! He created this breakfast bowl because he wanted something really hearty. He's the first person I ever met who puts pasta with eggs and bacon, but it works, and it tastes great! If you're really hungry, all the better if you're going to eat one of these breakfast bowls. Don't worry if you can't finish it; Garth will come along later and "clean up"!"

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons butter
8 large eggs
1 16-ounce bag frozen hash browns or Tater Tots, thawed
1 pound pork sausage
1 pound bacon
1 9-ounce package cheese and roasted garlic tortellini
In a large skillet, melt the butter and scramble the eggs.
In a separate large skillet, cook the hash browns according to package directions.
In a third large skillet, break up the sausage with a wooden spoon and cook until browned.
Drain off the excess fat. Transfer the sausage to a bowl. Cook the bacon in the same skillet. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
Cook the tortellini according to the package directions. Layer a large bowl with hash browns, sausage, bacon, tortellini, eggs, and cheese.
Any potato will do. Garth's even been known to use french fries! I sometimes fry an egg sunny side up and pile it on top of Garth's bowl. He likes the way the yolk oozes into the dish.
