Back at the beginning of June I had brought you the sad, sad story of Billy Bob "don't call me an actor" Thornton's estranged daughter being charged with child neglect after a 1-year-old little girl she was babysitting died.
Well now comes word from People.com that the charges have been upgraded and Amanda Brumfield, 29, was booked Wednesday into a jail in Orlando, Florida on charges including first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and aggravated manslaughter.
When Amanda was first arrested earlier this month, she said the little girl had hit her head after falling in October of 2008. Amanda hadn't called for help for over two hours, raising the suspicion of the police. An autopsy later revealed a fractured skull and brain injury, leading the medical examiner to rule the death a homicide. Police said Brumfield's explanation was inconsistent with the child's injuries.
Amanda's currently being held without bail.
When asked for a comment, Billy Bob released a statement saying, "Mr. Thornton is estranged from Amanda and has had no contact with her for quite some time."
He went on to say, "Any time a baby's life is lost is an unimaginable tragedy and my heart goes out to the baby's family and loved ones."
