Shania Twain being turned into a giant, gaping hole

This story makes me very sad for some reason.

Shania Twain's hometown of Timmins, Ontario, Canada made the decision recently to close down the Shania Twain Centre after years of it losing money. The last day for the failed tourist attraction was Friday, February 1.

But that's not the end of the story. Turns out that the city has sold the property to gold mining company Goldcorp who will officially take possession of the property in June. The sad thing is, the company plans to demolish the building and will turn the 65 acres of land into an open-pit gold mine.

According to reports, the center has racked up millions in debt since opening 12 years ago. Before opening the doors, the government had projected some 50,000 tourists a year would visit the Centre by 2005, but in actuality it only drew in less than 15,000 visitors per year.

Turns out that each resident in the town of 47,000 had been shelling out $7 a year just to keep the lights on.

"We probably should have taken a better look at the numbers to ensure the expectations could be met," Mayor Tom Laughren said of the Centre's planning.

Shania's people have brought much of the memorabilia from the tourist attraction to Vegas to be on display for her Las Vegas show, but the rest has been for sale to fans for up to 75% off normal prices. Anything left will reportedly be placed on display at various places around Timmins.

A sad end to the Shania Twain Centre, but in these tough times it's not surprising. Just sad that the land will now be turned into a giant, gaping, gold-producing hole.

Shania Twain and Terri Clark make it onto the prestigious NRA enemies list

Gunnuts (1)
The NRA (National Rifle Association) is sort of like PETA in my book -- they have a good cause they fight for for the most part, they just tend to get a little too wacko and out in left field for my comfort.

Despite country music and guns going together like peanut butter and jelly, Mork & Mindy, or the birds & the bees, there are a few country singers out there who the NRA really doesn't like much. In fact, they like these country stars so little that they've added them to their hate list.

Ouch.

According to Buzzfeed, the NRA's enemies list came to light last fall and includes over 200 celebrities who have "lent their name and notoriety to anti-gun causes, speaking out for anti-gun legislation and providing a voice for anti-gun organizations." Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, and Terri Clark all made it onto this prestigious list. Check out the full list after the jump...

Worst Country Songs That Were Big Hits Poll – Response

Recently, The Boot ran a Facebook poll that asked readers what the worst country hits were. I had a look through some of the answers and some were expected, and some totally surprised me, so I thought I’d share this list with you and a few of my comments. Here’s the top 10 counting down.

10. Shania Twain – That Don’t Impress Me Much

I get this. One of the main things that underlies country fans’ criticisms of songs is the lack of ‘country’ they feel is present. Though I loved this song as a kid growing up, it was because of its poppiness, not because it was a great country song. Its bouncy chirpiness and connections to novelties probably didn’t do a lot for its popularity with die-hard country fans either.

9. Jason Aldean – Dirt Road Anthem

I can see why people were annoyed by this one. I personally found it all kinds of oddness, despite the fact it was a huge hit. Brantley Gilbert is a talented writer but I actually preferred his remixed version, although it was even further from ‘country’ than Jason’s. The slow rap is not a thing.

8. Sugarland – Stuck Like Glue

WHAT EVEN THE WHAT. I love this song. A lot. It is so catchy and the video is probably one of my all-time favorite country music videos. It’s hysterical and I just don’t understand how anyone can truly hate this song. Sure, they might be annoyed by its catchiness, but I like to call those people spoilsports and the ‘cool kids’ who pretend not to love ‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepsen but rock out to it in the shower. However, this song is far, far better than that and there is no excuse whatsoever for not loving it.

Shania Twain Does Not Like To Share!

Shania

There has been some gossip going around lately that Shania Twain is pretty furious with Tim Mcgraw & Faith Hill. Just six days after Shania premiered her show in Las Vegas, the happily married couple began their show in Las Vegas as well. A source told the National Enquirer that Shania is "beside herself." The source also explains why Shania has a reason to be upset “This was supposed to be her big comeback after eight years away from the music scene, but now Shania feels like Faith and Tim have eclipsed her moment in the spotlight – and she’s seething!”

Tim and Faith's show will end come April but Shania's show will run for the next two years. Besides, I'm sure Tim & Faith had no bad intentions. Everyone can share the spotlight, there is enough to go around.

So what do you guys think? Does Shania have a legit reason to be upset?

Shania Twain ready to start recording again ... just needs to find the time

Shania Twain Vegas Magazine
Shania Twain launched her new Vegas show, Still The One, on December 1st to rave reviews. Now that the butterflies are gone, Shania tells Vegas Magazine that she's getting antsy to record new music but with a successful new show, she just doesn't have the time yet.

“I’m so confident how my voice is coming across, I know I am ready to go back in the studio and record an album. I just don’t have the time yet. I don’t want to lose contact with my fans. I don’t want to lose that element of being able to touch people and connect with them and not be separated from them. For me, it’s like a dream.”

Despite fans being anxious for new music, I'm pretty sure they will patiently wait. What's another year or two when they've already waited so long?

Shania Twain gets Vegas chips in honor of new show

Shania Twain made her triumphant return to the stage for the first time since July of 2004 in her new Vegas show Shania Twain: Still the One on Saturday and from all accounts it was awesome. You can check out a 40-minute video someone slyly took of her second show here.

To help celebrate her two-year residency, Caesars Palace has released two new $5 chips that feature Shania and Shania with a horse.

All-Chips.com has these chips that you can purchase for a small markup if you want some for your collection, which is pretty cool.

Photo below is via All-Chips.com.

Also, loads of photos from Shania's opening performance here.

Shania Twain says her next album will probably be a Christmas album

CLV_Shania_430x242_16x9_430x242
Shania Twain hits the stage in Vegas in December for her highly anticipated Still the One show at Caesars Palace, but what about a new album?

Shania recently chatted with the in-flight magazine Up Magazine and talked about her new show and how a new album is coming along.

Unfortunately, it sounds like it's going to be a while before fans get new music, but by next Christmas it sounds like there will be some Shania holiday music to cheer them up. Shania says:

I’m concentrating on the show and not really getting any closer to recording a new album, even though I’ve done so much of the writing. I’m more inclined to make my next record a Christmas album. I’m been dying to do a Christmas album for so long and I think now is the best time to do that. Once the show is underway I’m just going to, no pun intended, chill and fall into one of my nostalgic modes and make a Christmas album.

Shania also tells the magazine what they can expect if they're able to see the Still the One show:

There will be some fantastic things that happen in the show. You’re going to feel it; you’re going to smell it. The show will be very cinematic and you will be enveloped in the environment in a multi-dimensional way. It’s not just visual. You’re going to experience seasonal changes: there’s a lot of temperature changing that goes on in the show; there’s a lot of nature in the show. I have made the show very personalized so I take everybody through the different seasons of my life. So, people can expect surprises in that regard but then they can expect the reminiscing and being reunited with familiar songs they haven’t heard in a long time. I’m really sticking to the hit songs and I’ll do a few new things like “Today is your Day,” and I might do the Lionel Richie duet, “Endless Love.” For the most part, I want to reconnect with everybody based on what we have in common and that’s the hits.

Still the One hits Vegas December 1, 2012. Fans can purchase tickets for $55-$250 by calling (800) 745-3000 or making reservations online.

Fierce.

Shania Twain is Canada's pick for a travel buddy

Shania Twain
If you could pick any celebrity to travel with, who would you pick?

If you're Canadian, chances are you'd pick Shania Twain. In fact, nearly one-fifth of our neighbors to the north (out of 1234 Canadian adults surveyed) say that they would choose Shania according to a new survey.

According to Canoe.ca, a new Travelocity.ca survey found that 17% of respondents would like to travel with Shania and 38% of those said they'd like it to be a romantic trip. I wonder how Shania's new hubby feels about that?

At a far second place was Oprah Winfrey who came in with 9% of the vote followed by Celine Dion and Ryan Gosling.

In last place was poor Justin Bieber who only got 1% of the vote.

I guess your choice probably depends on your age bracket.

I do believe I have a brand new favorite Shania Twain song

Shania Twain Ka Ching

So here's an admission, the only Shania Twain songs I've ever managed to listen to are ones that play on the radio.  Well there's her Today is Your Day song, but other than that one and her Men are Like Shoes one that I love that I'm not sure how I came across, my main Shania Twain experience has been thanks to the radio.

Man have I missed out!

Country Universe today did a retro single review of Shania's Ka-Ching from her album 'Up'.

Oh my goodness gracious, I love, love, love this song!  I may have to start cruising YouTube or buying some of Shania's old CDs to see what else I've missed because this is too much fun.
