I had watched one of those The Smoking Gun shows yesterday and it was one about customers who get out of hand or something like that. Anyway, most of the unruly crowds of people came from Black Friday video. Then I read this just a few minutes ago. From BBC World News:
An employee of Wal-Mart is dead after he was knocked over by shoppers taking advantage of Black Friday, the day after American Thanksgiving.
The worker was trampled at a Long Island outlet by a throng of unruly shoppers when the store opened, and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
“He was bum-rushed by 200 people,” said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. “They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too…I literally had to fight people off my back.”
According to police, the crowd of impatient shoppers broke down the door of the store to gain access, knocking the man, and a 28 year old pregnant woman down.
There is no word on the medical condition of the woman at this time.
According to witnesses, a number of other people were hurt as the massive crowd surged into the store.
“They’re savages,” said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. “It’s sad. It’s terrible.”
I don't get it, are bargains really worth this? Why do stores insist on bringing in throngs of customers for "deals" and then locking them out so that they storm the doors when they are finally unlocked? I mean, shouldn't stores who do this have some sort of security measures in place so that tragic things like this don't happen? I just really, really don't get it. It's just stuff people, honestly.
Update: I just went looking for some more info... "A throng of shoppers . . . physically broke down the doors" at around 5 a.m. Friday and knocked the 34-year-old part-time worker to the ground as the crowd pushed its way into the store at the Green Acres Mall, Nassau police said. Police identified the worker as Jdimytai Damour of Jamaica, Queens."
First there was the fight at the Carrie Underwood concert, then Tim nearly dukes it out with a fan, then 70 some odd people are arrested and two die after a Chesney concert, and now two men ended up going to a hospital Sunday night after stabbing each other during a fight at a Toronto music festival.
I'm telling you, I might start carrying some mace or taking along a big dog when I go to concerts from now on, things are getting rough out there.
A Florida woman and her husband went outside to check out what was running around their yard. It was a fox. Obviously it was a pissed off fox.
The animal attacked the woman and wouldn't let go of her leg. The husband ran inside and got a gun and shot the fox dead. Also shot was his wife who was taken to a local hospital.
You know, if she had been killed no one would have believed the guy's story. Good thing she lived, now it's all just a punchline. At least they have a good story to tell at parties now.
Trace Adkins is going to be making a trip overseas in September to support the troops with his second USO tour. He'll be performing up to three concerts each day at bases located in Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan.
In other Trace news, I browsed the news section of his website and found that:
Trace is having a CD signing today, July 25, from 3 PM to 5 PM followed by a free concert at the Little Creek Concert Stage at 6 PM in Norfolk, Virginia.
Trace's new single "Muddy Water" will hit radio August 4th.
Trace now has a thing called a Gig-Vid that has videos of things that happen back stage before concerts. I don't know about you, but I love behind the scenes stuff.
Trace will be hitting the stage at the Grand Ole Opry three times this year, July 29th, August 12th, and 23rd, and you can get $3 off tickets by visiting his website.
There is also a site called http://www.reverbnation.com/TraceAdkins where there is a new thing called a street team, something about a sort of scavenger hunt or something. Heck I don't know, but you can check it out and read all about it for yourself.
There you go, lots of Trace news to keep you busy.
TMZ is reporting that Mindy McCready is headed back to rehab after trying to commit suicide by overdosing on vodka and Ambien last week. Mindy collapsed while talking on the phone with her mom.
Mindy is a troubled soul and so none of this is very surprising. The surprising part of the story is that apparently Dr. Phil has decided to take Mindy under his wing and is trying to get her the help she needs and is doing all the arrangements.
I think Dr. Phil has a good heart (for the most part ) and I hope that if this is true it's meant to help Mindy and he's not just helping for the sake of a future show.
Get well Mindy.
Update: People Magazine has now picked up the story. You can read their article here.
Bucky Covington is set to perform a free concert in Streetsboro City Park for Streetsboro Family Days Aug. 1 in Streetsboro, Ohio. The entire family days lasts from July 31 to August 3.
