Taylor Swift has the #1 movie in all the land (which happened to break a few records to boot)

I've read some pretty good reviews, some mediocre reviews, and I've read some pretty darn rotten reviews of the new Lorax movie, but negative reviews definitely didn't stop fans from stampeding theaters this weekend.

The Dr. Seuss classic - which stars the voices of Zac Effron, Danny DeVito, and Taylor Swift - took in a record breaking $70.2 million this weekend.  This was nearly double what experts figured it would bring in and is the biggest animated movie opening in two years.

Wow! Go Lorax!

So did anyone see the movie this weekend? Thoughts?

New Hunger Games TV spot featuring Taylor Swift's new song

I don't know about you, but everyone in my family - well minus my husband who is too cool for such things - is excited for The Hunger Games to hit theaters March 23rd.  That's pretty good considering my son is the only one who has actually read one of the books.

In case you're as excited as my family, here's a new TV Spot featuring Taylor Swift's Safe and Sound.

And just in case you missed it, you can watch Taylor's official music video for Safe and Sound (featuring The Civil Wars) after the jump...

Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw to star in a movie together?

Taylor Swift and Tim McGraw

Well now this is an interesting lil rumor.  Tim McGraw has a new movie coming out this Friday called Dirty Girl and he's also rumored to be the top choice for Clint Eastwood's A Star is Born remake with Beyonce, but Tim's also got a new movie role up his sleeve....or at least is rumored to....and this one's going to have a heckuva lot of buzz if things work out.

IMDB has Tim along with Taylor Swift on the roster for the film Paradi$e.  Of course they both still have "rumor" after their names so nothing's set in stone yet (or maybe this is the movie maker's dream team, I don't know), but it would certainly be cool if the stars aligned and everything worked out.

Tim's rumored to play dad Brad Anderson and Taylor is rumored to be playing Allison Roth, so unfortunately wouldn't be Tim's pretend daughter or anything fun like that.

From IMDB's plot summary for the movie:

Paradi$e is a compelling, uplifting, contemporary drama that centers on a Hollywood family falling apart and mending itself back together. While the backdrop is decorated with all the accouterments of the lavish lifestyle, the story in due course debunks it all. We take a journey with the Anderson family-Brad (50) the talent manager father, Kristen (45) a devoted but naive wife, Tyler (18) a basketball sensation and Justin (16) a free spirited skateboard champ-and watch as they learn how all that really matters is having each other in a time where morals are evaporating, money is scarce and Dreams only come true for those who give a shit. Written by Daniel J. Gillin and Jonathon Baron

Being in pre-production, there's no definite movie info like when it starts shooting, when it comes out like that, but I'll definitely keep you updated if I hear anymore.

Hi Ho Silver....the Lone Ranger reportedly ready to ride again

Lone-Ranger-Movie-Logo

I know, I know, who cares about the Lone Ranger movie, right?

Well every red blooded American with a pulse better care, dammit.

Okay, actually you should care as a country fan because Dwight Yoakam has a part as a bad guy in the flick.

As I told you back in July, Dwight was all set to play the part of the villain, Butch Cavendish, who is part of the gang that tries to kill the Lone Ranger played by The Social Network's Armie Hammer.  Then came word that the movie budget had skyrocketed to a crazy $250 million and Disney had put the project on hold indefinitely.

Now comes word from The Hollywood Reporter that all the big name players in the making of the movie - Johnny Depp (as Tonto), director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean), and producer Jerry Bruckheimer - have cut their fees and several expensive special effects have been nixed in order to bring costs down and it looks like Disney's ready to get things moving again.

So we may just get to see Dwight Yoakam try and kill the Lone Ranger after all.  Happy day!

Taylor Swift's new movie gets a poster

Lorax poster

I bet you forgot that Taylor Swift had a new movie coming out, eh?

Well she does.  Taylor is voicing the character of Audrey in Dr. Seuss' The Lorax alongside Zac Efron, Betty White, Willow Smith, Danny DeVito and many others.

The movie will hit theaters March 2, 2012.

Right now there's no official trailer for the movie available, but there is a covert copy on a Chinese website you can check out here if you're adventurous.

It takes a little while to load, but it does eventually show up.  Oh, and it's an unfinished copy so the official trailer will be much more polished.

Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah's "Joyful Noise" finally gets an official trailer

A few days ago I had your first look at Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah's church choir movie "Joyful Noise" with a little crappy-quality video I had recorded from my TV on my cell phone camera from Entertainment Tonight.

 I know, totally covert.

Fortunately the official trailer has finally hit the web so we get a much better look at the movie.

And it definitely looks funny.

"Joyful Noise" will hit theaters January 13, 2012.

Julianne Hough lines up new movie

Russell_brand_julianne_hough_a_lPhotos via Getty/Hollywood Reporter

Julianne Hough is becoming quite the Hollywood hot commodity these days.  She has "Footloose" coming out October 14th, "Rock of Ages" coming out June of 2012, and an animated flick, "Not Born to be Gladiators", coming sometime in 2012, and now it appears she's lined up her next role.

THR is reporting that Julianne has signed on to star in "Juno" writer Diablo Cody's directorial debut, "Lamb of God" (old title, official title unknown) along with comedian Russell Brand.

Julianne will play a "young conservative religious woman (Hough) who loses her faith after a plane crash, decides to go to Las Vegas to live the life of a sinner, and on her journey finds her way back to her faith. Brand plays her unlikely companion who helps her find herself."

So I guess it's a biopic?

Shooting will reportedly begin this spring.

So I wonder if the proper amount of time has passed for me to stop calling Julianne Hough a country singer and start considering her just an actress?

Someone really should come out with a blogger netiquette book to answer these sorts of blog-writing conundrums.

Randy Travis bringing Rodney Atkins along for his newest movie adventure

350_16_South_Postcard_no_phone_numbers

Did you know that since 1992, Randy Travis has been a part of 38 (yes, 38!) different TV show, movies, videos, cartoons, etc.?

Where the heck does the man find the time?

Well better make that 39 because Randy is currently early in the shooting of a new movie.

And he's bringing Rodney Atkins along with him for the ride.

Filming for Randy's new movie 16 South is currently underway in Texas with Randy signed on to play George Baker.  Rodney Atkins will play himself in the feature film.

No word on what the film will be about other than that it's a "modern-day western."

Shooting is reportedly taking place as we speak in the San Antonio/Austin area.  No word on when the movie is schedule to hit theaters, T.V., video, or wherever it will eventually land.

Willie Nelson could quite possibly have the #1 movie at the box office this weekend

Our Idiot Brother

Hey, guess who has a new movie coming out this weekend....it's Willie Nelson!

No, not that Willie Nelson.

This Willie Nelson.

Willie Nelson the dog

Our Idiot Brother opens in theaters today and it looks HILARIOUS.  It's about idiot stoner brother Ned (Paul Rudd) who gets arrested for selling pot to a uniformed cop and his life falls apart and he has to move back home - or something like that.  Well apparently part of the plot includes Ned's girlfriend leaving him for another hippie and taking his dog Willie Nelson with her.

So just how did the golden retriever come by the name?  Director Jesse Peretz spoke with Celeb Stoner  about the film and how the dog got his name.

"The first level of that decision was, wouldn't it just be funny if Ned named his dog after a musician or some figure he admires, and calls the dog by a first and last. Then we played around with various figures (Jimmy Hendrix, Neil Young, etc.) but ultimately landed on Willie Nelson as the ideal idealist for an idealist like Ned to be particularly obsessed with. And the more the script and film took shape, the more we realized that all the associations that people have with Willie Nelson as being just a positive free spirit, devoid of judgement, a lover of people and a guy loved by literally everyone  - the more we realized he was a perfect fit for Ned and the film as a whole."

So what did Willie think about the honor of having a movie dog named for him?  Peretz says they contacted the country (and stoner) legend and got his stamp of approval. Willie even sings three songs on the movie's soundtrack.

Check out My Idiot Brother's Facebook for more info on the movie as well as to check out some Willie Nelson the Pooch fun and games.
