Chart Roundup – Week of June 22nd, 2013

TMG_-_Highway_Dont_Care_cover

This week, the Billboard country charts have been more static than usual. In fact, Hot Country Songs’ top 5 is exactly the same, highlighting the key players and their consistent selling. As per usual Florida Georgia Line are at the top, ‘Cruise’ at #1 on Hot Country Songs and #1 on Country Digital Songs. ‘Get Your Shine On’ is not too far behind, at #9 on Hot Country Songs and Country Digital Songs, and their third single ‘Round Here’ has begun its ascent on the Country Airplay top 30, this week at #29. ‘Here’s To The Good Times’ has risen to #3 on Top Country Albums once more.

Again, Blake Shelton’s ‘Boys Round Here’ (featuring Pistol Annies and friends) is FGL’s strongest contender. At #2 on Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay, and #3 on Country Digital Songs, the recent release of a celebrity remix is bound to push the track to #1 next week. If that weren’t enough, Blake’s latest album ‘Based On A True Story…’ holds onto the #1 spot on Top Country Albums. Not too far behind him is Darius Rucker, whose album ‘True Believers’ is at #2, while the big hit ‘Wagon Wheel’ remains at #3 on Hot Country Songs, #6 on Country Airplay, and #4 on Country Digital Songs.

LeAnn Rimes new album "Spitfire" coming June 4

Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter LeAnn Rimes is releasing her new album, SPITFIRE, on June 4, 2013. Rimes, who co-wrote nine of the songs on her newest offering, says "This album is a peek into my world; who I am, what I've gone through, what my emotions are. It's an intimate conversation between me and whoever's listening. I hope I'm saying things that are hard for others to express. It certainly took me a lot of work to get to this point. And it's still easier to sing these thoughts than it is to say them out loud. The intimacy in my music is just beginning."

LeAnn Rimes bought herself a house for Christmas

LeAnn Rimes house
So what did you get for Christmas?

Bet you didn't get what LeAnn Rimes got.

The LA Times is reporting that Ms. Rimes and her trophy hubby, Eddie, got themselves a sparkling new home for the bargain basement price of $3 million.

The Spanish-style house, built in 2005, sits on nearly 2 acres with a swimming pool, a guest house and a barbecue center off a covered patio. Features include beamed ceilings, an arched window in the dining room, a central staircase with Spanish-tile accents, a den, an office, six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, 8,642 square feet of living space and a four-car garage.

The Times doesn't mention when LeAnn bought the property, but Trulia (where all pictures below came from) says the home sold back in December.

Brandi Glanville isn't trying to defame LeAnn Rimes

Our fearless leader, Shannon, posted this blog earlier in the week about LeAnn Rimes putting some weight back on.  Shannon offered the not so far-fetched explanation that perhaps, LeAnn was trying to counteract the bad press brought on by Brandi Glanville's new book by getting pregger.

I had the chance to speak with Brandi Glanville, and I asked if she thought this was a crazy notion.

"I don't know that you get pregnant to counteract press, because then you have a kid for the rest of your life.  The book isn't to give them bad press.  It's to tell my story of overcoming adversity, and a cautionary tale about making sure your name is on the house."

She was a Housewife of Beverly Hills, outside of breaking a nail, what calamitous events could she possibly experience?  Eddie's soldier wouldn't stand at attention!

LeAnn Rimes apparently finally ate a cheeseburger

LeAnn Rimes
Amazing what a year can do. At last year's Grammy Awards, LeAnn Rimes looked like she could cut glass with various parts of her anatomy. This year at a pre-Grammy Event (via Yahoo), LeAnn was looking much healthier and quite a bit younger.

On a side note, I'm just hoping that the sudden weight change and healthier look LeAnn's sporting doesn't mean that she and Eddie are trying to counteract the negative press brought on by the upcoming release of Brandi Glanville's tell-all book "Drinking & Tweeting" by trying to have a baby or anything like that.

Positive thoughts.

Was LeAnn Rimes Drunk On The X Factor? The Drama Continues... (Vickye’s take on it)

Tumblr_mfclcbEuhY1qzju9io1_1280

She’s been through the mill a bit the last few years, LeAnn Rimes has. After her extra-marital affair, divorce, re-marriage, and battles with her new husband’s ex-wife have been played out very publicly in the media (including on the show the latter is a star of, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), you’d think that no more drama would come to her and she’d fade from the press a little. But perhaps her time in the negative spotlight hasn’t faded just yet.

On Wednesday LeAnn performed on The X Factor USA with Carly Rose, a 13-year-old contestant with a big voice. The performance was a sham from start to finish, if I’m honest. LeAnn came on (a little wobbly), grinning, and while Carly seemed to have done okay with the song before LeAnn arrived, both were honestly shocking after her appearance. Vocals were out of key, timing was over-played with, harmonies were horrible and nobody seemed to know when they were coming in. Both were attempting to improvise and they didn’t even seem to have met yet. It was generally a shambles and when I heard it I wanted to turn it off because the singing (from both) was that bad, While you could argue that Carly is only 13 and that exempts her, I would say why is she in this competition? I think it’s ridiculous to allow children under the age of 16 to participate, they are not emotionally ready for such a hard career (cause it’s hard graft you know), they need to finish school and it’s overall a bad idea because they are children and we’ve all seen what happens to child stars!

You could argue that LeAnn being a child star hasn’t exactly ensured a perfect upbringing, and she hasn’t been short of dramas in her life, particularly as she had to book herself into rehab for stress recently. So that brings me on to my next point. Many celebrities will have a shot of whiskey or something to calm their nerves before a performance. It’s standard practise for some and we only have to look at people like Hank Williams and George Jones to know that many musicians are alcoholics. People like Eric Church are regularly drunk on stage. But that’s possibly not so much the issue here. I think there has been a big reaction because LeAnn is female. It seems more uncouth in today’s society still for women to be drunk. I think there is also the issue of LeAnn singing with the girl. It was not her performance, and you could say that she isn’t setting a very good example for such a young girl if she is drunk on stage.

LeAnn Rimes responds to X Factor criticism

6a00e552403d2f8833017c34d120c0970b-500wi
LeAnn Rimes broke her silence earlier today after the rumor started going around last night and this morning that she may possibly have been a wee bit snockered at last night's "X Factor" finale when she dueted with 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar.

The performance was definitely odd and it seemed that LeAnn might have forgotten the words and notes she was supposed to be singing at various times throughout the song.

Most of America probably just snickered a bit and then moved on to bigger and better things and would have forgotten about the whole story by now if it weren't for a pesky followup that's now popped up.

TMZ allegedly spoke with LeAnn's rep this morning who told them that LeAnn was "NOT impaired and if there was any awkwardness it was only because she was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song."

Was LeAnn Rimes drunk during her X Factor performance last night?

Untitled
Last night I had video of  Little Big Town and LeAnn Rimes performing with contestants on day one of "The X Factor's" finale. Almost immediately people started coming to NashvilleGab searching for LeAnn Rimes drunk or other similar search terms. I thought that was a little odd. I had watched the video of LeAnn and had thought her performance was a little off and her voice didn't sound in tip top shape, but drunk?

Well this morning TMZ has a post asking the question that seemed to be on everyone's mind ... was LeAnn tipsy last night? They even have a poll asking people to vote. I rewatched the video with a questioning mind and yeah, something really did seem kind of off.

LeAnn Rimes took the stage on 'X Factor' last night, and delivered a weird performance that has a lot of people wondering if she hit the bottle before taking the mic.

LeAnn joined finalist Carly Rose Sonenclar for a duet.  The good news -- Carly Rose did great.  But when LeAnn chimed in, she looked wobbly and seemed to meander as the song went along.

At one point, LeAnn clutched Carly Rose, arguably to maintain her balance.

The duet was definitely a hot mess. So what do you guys think? Drunk, sick, or just an off night?

On a side note, I thought LeAnn looked good.

Little Big Town and LeAnn Rimes perform on The X Factor (video)

Little Big Town and LeAnn Rimes took the stage on part one of the season finale for "The X Factor" tonight to perform with two of the remaining contestants - Little Big Town with Tate Stevens and LeAnn Rimes with Carly Rose Sonenclar.

Had to be kind of odd being on stage for LeAnn because back before Britney Spears took her spot as a show judge, LeAnn was rumored to be interested in the job.

The winner of this season's "X Factor" will be crowned tomorrow.

LeAnn Rimes Wonders ‘What Have I Done’ In Promotional Single – Review

Medium-lmswgza7bmegv0m8vzrbnfyjkkh0jjcfibq46qzv2ac
Couched in a few years of public drama, speculation and tears, ‘What Have I Done’, is a promotional single from LeAnn Rimes from her 2013 album ‘Spitfire’, that has been pitched as a song covering LeAnn’s feelings towards her ex-husband, Dean Sheremet, over her extra-marital affair and the messy divorce. For those who have somehow managed to miss the drama, LeAnn began a relationship with her now-husband Eddie Cibrian, who was also married at the time. Both divorced their respective partners soon after the information leaked, but it was a messy situation that played out very publicly, and friction continues to occur between the newly-married pair and Eddie’s ex-wife and mother of his two children, Brandi Glanville. In fact, new dramas between them reach the press to this day, so this song is hugely current.

Lyrically the song is an apology for taking advantage of a man’s love and hurting him, drawing particular parallels to LeAnn’s affair through the lines “For far too long I hid my face, I fed off your forgiving grace”. The narrative is simple and doesn’t draw on any specifics, meaning that LeAnn can also choose for the song to be fictional and the message can be transposed to any number of people’s lives and situations. While this is nice and there is plenty of room for songs such as these for people who need a song to describe their life, I feel that for a song advertised as her feelings over this very public mess that has occurred, and her regretful message to her ex-husband, I wish it were a little more open and honest about her own life. However, I don’t think she had a hand in writing it and has simply applied it to her situation, and I’m sure there’ll be plenty of songs to narrate the past few years on her new album next year. I say this not so much as wanting to feast on celebrity drama, but rather to hear the musical results of all different kinds of emotions that she must have felt in this period. After all, her last fully original album, ‘Family’, was released before any of this occurred, in 2007.
