Does Reba McEntire believe Blake Shelton cheated?

Images
Reba called my show last week to plug Malibu Country and Blake's guest appearance, so I figured what better time to ask her about the rumor that circulated last week?

"You know what? If I was married to Miranda Lambert, that'd be the last thing that would be on my mind. Because that woman, she's fierce. I wouldn't want her on my bad side."
Reba also talked about Blake's possible spinoff, Malibu Country's chance of a second season, new music, and eating bull balls. Click Here for the full interview

Kelly Clarkson to appear on my favorite T.V. show - Who Do You Think You Are?

Kelly Clarkson

I'm so, so happy!!!

Back last year, NBC decided to do the knuckle headed thing and canceled my very favoritist show, Who Do You Think You Are?

When I found out, I cried, I screamed, I threw vases.

Okay, not really, but I was genuinely bummed out. Reba, Tim McGraw, and Wynonna Judd's sister Ashley had all appeared on the show.

Now word has it that TLC has picked up the show and will begin airing new episodes.

Yay!

And even better news -- according to MJ's Blog, Kelly Clarkson has filmed or is filming an episode for the show.

MJB did a little digging and found Americus, Georgia resident, Michael, who tweeted about meeting Kelly while she was in search of her familial roots in the area.

The pair even made it onto the local paper's front page.

@kelly_clarkson we made the front page.... twitter.com/lodnit2/status…

I've done a little Googling and I can't find anything that mentions when TLC will begin a new season of the show so, of course, we don't know when Kelly's episode will air, but I'll definitely let you know when I find out.

Cop killer Christopher Dorner praised Kelly Clarkson in online letter

Kelly clarkson

Holy smokes, have you guys been following the crazy story of the ex LA cop, Christopher Dorner, who is currently hunting down the people he feels did him wrong in the past while the whole U.S. government is hunting him down like Osama Bin Laden 2.0?

Now possibly complete with drones?

Holy moly. What a wacky and intense story.

Well turns out that Dorner was a Kelly Clarkson fan. Before the accused killer became the #1 hunted man in the U.S. with a million dollar price on his head, he posted a manifesto online praising loads of celebrities and condeming the Westboro Baptist Church. One of the stars Dorner included in his rambling writings was Kelly Clarkson. He wrote:

"Jennifer Beals, Serena Williams, Grae Drake, Lisa Nicole-Carson, Diana Taurasi, N’bushe Wright, Brenda Villa, Kate Winslet, Ashley Graham, Erika Christensen, Gabrielle Union, Isabella Soprano, Zain Verjee, Tamron Hall, Gina Carano, America Ferrara, Giana Michaels, Nene, Natalie Portman, Queen Latifah, Michelle Rodriguez, Anjelah Johnson, Kelly Clarkson, Nora Jones, Laura Prepon, Margaret Cho, and Rutina Wesley, you are THE MOST beautiful women on this planet, period. Never settle, professionally or personally."

Well that was awful nice of him.

Dorner also had words of praise for Tim Tebow, Christopher Walz, Larry David, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, and bunches of others. Check out the full version of his manifesto here.

Kelly Clarkson has never lip-synced

Here's an excerpt from my interview with Kelly:

Me: Did Beyonce lip-sync, and does it matter?

Kelly: It really didn’t matter to me; take it from a girl that has stood there. It’s the most nerve-wracking environment I’ve ever been in. Everything in your heart and soul is praying to God that you don’t mess up. And why is it, because that event isn’t about me or Beyonce or James Taylor, we’re just the jazz hands on the side. It’s about the President and it’s a historical event and it’s about our country. I could totally see why someone wouldn’t want to mess that up and pre-tape it.

Me: Did you lip-sync?

Kelly: I didn’t. Ya know, I’ve actually never done that. Because I’m terrified, if I ever did that, something horrible would happen, the track would skip…I have a really unhealthy fear about it. So no, I’ve never done that.

What’s 2013 Set To Hold In Country Music? I Have A Go At Making Some REAL Predictions...

Kellie-pickler-cma-awards-2012-red-carpet-09

Well, we had my summary of 2012 in country music, and after querying it on Twitter, apparently people would like my take on what’s in store for the bright new year. I’m going to predict things at random. Mostly they’re educated guesses, but we all need a few totally off-the-wall predictions, right?

  • Hillary Scott’s baby will be a boy. I have no idea what is telling me this, but something is.
  • Another country star will get pregnant. I think Carrie and Miranda (who have often been asked about kids) are more set for 2014/15, but a country star somewhere is bound to get pregnant.
  • As for Taylor Swift relationship drama, I think after a couple of months the relationship with Harry will be over (although judging by her most recent tweet, “...’til you put me down.” It may already be), and she will have another two more relationships before the year is out, with a couple of other people she’s romantically linked with in the media but it doesn’t come to anything. Taylor has learned that relationships = publicity so I think her record label will be onto her to keep in the public eye in this way.
  • Kellie Pickler’s 2012 album ‘100 Proof’ wasn’t very well promoted by her label, who she then split from last year, but now she has signed with Black River Entertainment I think she will release a brand new single, totally out of left field and blow everyone away.
  • Kristian Bush will release an EP of acoustic sessions and a few songs he’s been working on, whilst Jennifer is off on maternity leave with her baby. It just makes sense and I really want it to happen.

Kelly Clarkson Spreads Holiday Cheer at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt with Musicians On Call Nashville (from the mailbag)

20121221JH0016-1
The Christmas spirit was alive and well when the multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter Kelly Clarkson stopped by Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt yesterday afternoon to sing and celebrate the season with patients, staff and families through Musicians On Call (MOC) Nashville.

Clarkson, who recently released her Greatest Hits – Chapter One album, visited with the children and performed an acoustic set in the Children's Hospital Theatre. The songstress led the packed room in a sing-along of her favorite holiday carols including "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer," "White Christmas," and "All I Want for Christmas is You." Clarkson encouraged singing and dancing, and the children were happy to oblige. Following the show, the kind-hearted entertainer generously offered to visit the rooms of patients unable to attend.

"This is such a special time of year and I'm so happy to be able to share it with all of these great kids. I'm probably having just as much, if not more, fun than they are," exclaimed Clarkson. "I heard about Musicians On Call from a friend of mine," she continued, "and I thought this would be the perfect way to get involved with a hospital music program here in Nashville. I love playing for the kiddos!!"

CMAs Performance Review – Part 3 (the final one I swear!)

Willie

This is part 3 of my CMAs performance review series. If you missed parts 1 and 2, you can read them here and here. Now for the final instalment.

The CMAs continued with Jason Aldean performing his hit single ‘Take A Little Ride’. His vocals were okay, much better than on his earlier performance, although actually the backing vocals were pitched wrongly I feel and actually made all the vocals sound out of tune in places even though Jason was on point. I think in this instance they may have needed Jason’s vocals to be louder in the mix, because although he was singing in tune, particularly on the chorus (which should be a peak in the song) they just didn’t stand out and sounded weak. His outfit was nice, the waistcoat-and-casual-shirt-combo suited him, giving it a rustic feel, but as for the setup, well it was an average country-rock staging and lacked imagination at times. The much-talked-about duet of Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill was next, and as expected Kelly’s vocals were great. I don’t think she ever has a bad vocal day! I loved the dress, gothic and on trend, however I felt like the performance was pretty much a reproduction of the studio version (perhaps because it’s a new single and they want to sell records but meh). It was done pretty plainly and simply but you could argue that it was appropriate for the song’s subject matter, promoting taking a back seat and just relaxing. Vince’s guitar playing was definitely a highlight of the performance for me.

The final original performance of the night was from Kenny Chesney, with his monster hit ‘Come Over’. I have to say something about the ‘look’ Kenny goes for nowadays, and personally I think he just looks a little creepy and I feel uncomfortable looking at him or watching him, but I don’t know why that is. I don’t know if it’s just me either. But that kind of ruins perfectly good performances for me. His vocals were on par but the performance itself was pretty basic, although I’m not sure a lot could be done with the song (that’s not to say Taylor Swift couldn’t have made it into a period narrative). I noticed during the night that a couple of performances used the song’s music video for the video footage in the background, and this was one of them. UNIMAGINATIVE! And self-promoting. I know that’s what all this is about but at least try to disguise it a little.

Following this, there was the tribute to Willie Nelson. Lady Antebellum sung two songs, ‘Always On My Mind’ and ‘Crazy’. Both Hillary and Charles looked incredibly awkward, especially the latter, though it was nice to hear Hillary sing in a more country twang style. Their vocals weren’t too bad, a little case of the flat liveness but that’s to be expected. It was a fairly average performance, modernising the more traditional sounds. Next up was Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson’s harmonica player) in a trio that stayed fairly true to the Western Honky-Tonk feel of the songs. They performed ‘Whiskey River’ with a rockin’ guitar solo which brought the performance into the 21st century, but into the final chorus keeping traditional elements. This was very refreshing for a genre so plagued by pop and commercial influences, and especially since Keith Urban was involved in this and he’s usually one of the pop-ish perpetrators. Next was Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, performing ‘Good Hearted Woman’. They seemed to stick as well as they could to the original sound and feel of the song, but incorporated their typical on-stage chemistry of standing very close and singing to each other. It was kept very simple and stripped back, which was nice in comparison to the showbiz feel of the modern industry and these awards.

After this, Willie Nelson came to the stage and joined all the previous tribute performers for a rendition of ‘On The Road Again’. I have to say he never seems to age and his talent never seems to deteriorate! His vocals were still the same quality as they ever were and his guitar solo was right on point. Despite so many performers being on stage, he commanded the stage. It was nice to see such a unified tribute to him, although I found it interesting to honor someone who was previously part of the Western outlaw movement that rejected much of Nashville’s commercial ways and sounds, instead preferring a more ‘traditional’, and ‘true country’ aesthetic. But hey, he’s a legend now and he probably appreciates the recognition.

That was the final of the performances and it was a great way to end the show, despite the fact that the three-hour televised event didn’t start all too well in my opinion! There were ups and downs throughout, although I certainly enjoyed it, it’s great that country music continues to come together to celebrate a few times a year, even if some people don’t perform too well!

So what did you think of the performances? Do you agree with my opinions? Was there anyone you think should have performed and didn’t?  Did you enjoy the show? Let us know in the comments!

Reba McEntire is a new grandma....to a puppy

Kelly and BrandonRICK DIAMOND/GETTY

Well things are certainly moving right along between sometimes country girl Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire's stepson Brandon Blackstock.

The pair have been dating since late last year and have just taken the next step in their relationship by adding a new family member -- a German Shepherd puppy rumored to be named Bear.

"Uh-oh ... commitment level," Clarkson, 30, tells People.com of their new addition.

So far there haven't been any pictures of the new puppy that I've seen (except for a rumored picture here), but like all good parents, I'm sure that will come soon enough.

Unfortunately on Tuesday, Kelly had a bit of a meltdown when one of her other dogs, Joplin, almost died and says on Twitter that Brandon, a pilot, flew in to comfort her.

I had the worst day yesterday because my little baby Joplin, one my dogs, almost died and I was a wreck. He is now at a vet hospital and doing better. Please say a prayer for him. Thank you to all of my fans that came out last night to my Ohio show! Y'all are the best! Thank you for making my night better. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

I had a really bad day yesterday and my boyfriend is a pilot and flew in to surprise me and be with me because I was so sad. He wins Best Boyfriend Award ....hands down. I'm very lucky he loves me so much. Please don't settle ladies! Great men are out there! Or great ladies depending on what team you bat for!

Awww. Sounds like before long Reba and husband Narvel may soon be real grandparents and not just to a sweet new puppy.
