Superb! Jewel and Kip Moore cover Bruce Springsteen's "I'm On Fire"

Has anyone ever noticed how much Bruce Springsteen's I'm On Fire and Kip Moore's Hey Pretty Girl sound alike?

After hearing Hey Pretty Girl tonight, I couldn't stand it anymore and had to go over to YouTube to see if there were any mashups of the two songs because I thought that would be awesome.

Anyway, that's when I came across this old (as in nearly 3 years old) video of Kip Moore joining Jewel on her Star Light 2010 Cafe tour where the pair covered Springsteen's I'm On Fire.

Enjoy.

Jewel's June Carter Cash portrayal finally gets a release date

Jewel June Carter Cash

In the summer of last year, Jewel started tweeting pictures of herself made up as June Carter Cash for the movie she was shooting based on the life of June as told by her and Johnny Cash's son John Carter Cash.

Now after nearly a year of waiting, fans have an official release date to look forward to. According to a press release, 'Ring of Fire' will air on Monday, May 27, at 8 p.m. PT/ET.

Jewel To Release Album Of Greatest Hits Plus A Couple Of Surprises

2654639-jewel-greatest-hits-cover-300

I have loved Jewel for a long time (‘Goodbye Alice In Wonderland’ is one of my favourite albums ever) so I was very excited about the news of a greatest hits album. Granted, I would like some new material, but she states in this article on Billboard that she has a couple of new original albums written already and is not sure which direction she would like to go in. Specifically she says she has written a country album, so good news for the country world!

Aside from that, fans can expect a good selection of songs from her career to feature on her greatest hits (although I do feel they’ve missed some gems), which will include, ‘You Were Meant For Me’, ‘Hands’, ‘Down So Long’, ‘Jupiter’, ‘Standing Still’, ‘Break Me’, ‘Intuition’, ‘Good Day’, ‘Stronger Woman’, ‘Satisfied’, ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’, ‘Who Will Save Your Soul’ and ‘Foolish Games’. In addition, two special surprises have been arranged that I for one am very excited about.

Along with the original version of the song, a duet with Kelly Clarkson on ‘Foolish Games’ will be featured on the album, bringing a new element to the masterpiece of a song, and Jewel will team up with the Pistol Annies (which consists of Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley) on a new version of Jewel’s massive 1996 hit, ‘You Were Meant For Me’. Now that I did not see coming. Clearly Jewel’s trying to make more inroads with country music with these duets, as her 2008 country album ‘Perfectly Clear’ did not do as well as deserved, and if she has written a country album she obviously wants to lay the foundations for a successful release. That’s not to say that she’ll definitely release it, but I have a feeling it won’t just go unpublished.

Finally, a new song will be featured, I guess to promote it. Jewel is currently trying to make the decision between two songs to make the final cut, entitled ‘Two Hearts Breaking’ (“really dark and poetic”) and ‘Dance Sing Laugh Love’ (“pop and fun”). However, she says, "I have no idea which one to put on; knowing me I'll put them both on and work out the publishing stuff on my end rather than choose between them." Sounds like a good plan to me!

Both were produced by Jay Joyce and will no doubt make a great addition to what is a huge career of amazing songwriting, which this album’s tracklist is not even close to exemplifying. However, I don’t think there’s any way Jewel’s ‘greatest hits’ could be summarised succinctly and they’ve done a pretty good job considering.

The album drops February 5th, 2013, and Jewel will be going on tour from March 7th to support it. The tour dates are listed below (venues to be announced):

March 7: Englewood, NJ
March 8: New Brunswick, NJ
March 9: Atlantic City, NJ
March 10: Portland, ME
March 12: Boston, MA
March 13: Huntington, NY
March 14: Lancaster, PA
March 15: Bethlehem, PA
March 16: Niagara Falls, NY
March 19: Washington, DC
March 20: Greensburg, PA
March 22: Verona, NY
March 23: Lakewood, OH
March 24: Detroit, MI

I’d just like to clarify I am in debt to the previously referenced Billboard article as it essentially informed this entire article (although I wrote all facts in my own words, obviously). Mainly because I’m too lazy to go looking elsewhere and it pretty much summed everything up.

I really look forward to hearing both the new song(s) and the new duets and to investing in this little piece of musical history.

Jewel sings a special song just for Walmart

You know your store is all powerful when Jewel will change the lyrics to a song she wrote just for your corporate meeting.

Now I'm going to have this tune stuck in my head all night.

As I'm sure you've heard already, Jewel is playing June Carter Cash in the upcoming Lifetime movie, 'The June Carter Cash Story', which is based on John Carter Cash's telling of his mother's life.

'Entertainment Tonight' in Canada recently caught up with the singer and talked with her about portraying the iconic singer in the movie.

'The June Carter Cash Story' will air on Lifetime but hasn't gotten an official air date yet.

Jewel transforms quite convincingly into June Carter Cash

Jewel as June
Wow.  Jewel posted a picture to her Twitter account today of her in character to play June Carter Cash in the upcoming Lifetime movie, stating: Here I am as June in my trailer with her blue eyes and perfect teeth #ringoffire yfrog.com/od5g8wikj

It's definitely a change from how we usually see Jewel, especially the new and improved (and likely fake) chompers.  Makes you realize how much Jewels teeth really define her, as odd as that sounds.

The June Carter Cash Story, which is based on June's son, John Carter Cash's telling of her life, will film this summer and will air on Lifetime.  An air date has not been announced yet.

Here's a photo of the real deal June for comparison.

Jewel and Martina McBride do things a bit differently, write notes to their kids for Mother's Day

I really like this idea.

Usually Mother's Day is all about your moms (as it should be), but US magazine took a different approach and asked some famous moms to write notes to their children.

Jewel and Kase

Jewel and Kase photo via Us magazine

Jewel wrote to son Kase about choosing a career:

Kase, your dad and I want you to find a career you're passionate about, like we are. Whether you choose music, or rodeo like your dad (I kind of hope it's not bull-riding -- so dangerous!), that passion is the sail that will carry you through any storm. With a strong sense of yourself, you'll never feel lost. Let that be your compass. -- Jewel to son Kase, 9 months.

Martinamcbride_daughters_hPhoto via GAC

Martina McBride wrote to her three daughters about life after leaving home.

Girls, go out and experience life -- but be careful! I think back to how naive and reckless I was when I was first on my own. So here's what I'm preaching: Don't accept a drink from a stranger. Don't walk to your car alone in a parking garage. I worry! -- Martina McBride to her daughters Delaney, 17, Emma, 14, and Ava 6.

Again, what a cool idea.  If you'd like to write a note to your child for their future selves but don't want to leave a note lying around that might get lost, thrown away, used for a coaster, or whatever, there's a very cool website called Future Me that lets you write emails to yourself, date it for the future, and it will deliver the note to the email you gave on the date you choose, even if its 20 years in the future (if you have the same email anyway).  I can't see why it wouldn't work to write a sweet little note to your kids that they could receive in the future.

Merry Christmas For So Many From So Many..Relax and Enjoy

Each year Christmas comes earlier & earlier with stores advertising at Halloween !!!  By time it actually gets her I am a bit over it all; the commercialism seems to swallow up the true meaning & Thanksgiving is all but forgotten.  But as I venture to look for some true Christmas spirit I am reminded it is out there in different forms.  I thought what I found would help wrap things up on what we may be missing.  Enjoy these few selections & Merry Christmas.
