Jessica Harp makes a big announcement, stuns her fans

Jessica harp

Wow.  Jessica Harp announced last week that she had a big announcement coming this week and yesterday Jessica took to her blog to finally let her fans in on her big secret, and it's a doozy.

Jessica has decided to step away from performing to focus on her songwriting full time. Here's what she had to say...

My sweet friends.

If someone had told me a couple years ago that I’d be sitting here writing you this letter I would’ve laughed. But as I’ve been through so much personally and professionally those last couple of years, and the older I get, I realize more and more how quickly time flies. How short life really is. And most of all, that change is ok, and sometimes for the best.

I’m writing to you with news that I’m certain you’re not expecting, and will most likely be very surprised by. After reading through your responses to my last post, I had a good long cry being the sap I am, knowing how wonderful you are and that I would be having to share with you something so unexpected. My hope is that you will understand and support what I’m about to tell you, just as you have lovingly and tirelessly supported me for so long.

Last week I announced to those in my professional world a decision that I only recently made in certainty. It’s a decision that began as a ‘what if?’ out of preparation, then slowly turned into ‘what if?’ out of personal necessity. It’s a decision that was long thought about, long discussed with those closest to me, long soul searched and prayed about. It wasn’t easy…until it came to feel right in one’s search for fulfillment and happiness. Until I realized a change of heart.

It’s with the certainty of choice, but the heavy heart of a woman who will mourn the closing of a very long chapter in her life that I tell you…I have decided at this point to stop pursuing my career as a recording artist and focus on songwriting full time.

The decision wasn’t easy and less easy to tell you guys. You, who have stood by me through the ups, downs and in betweens. Some who have supported me since I was just an independent singer/songwriter trying to follow my dream. Many who followed me through a blessings of success in a duo with my friend. Now through the rollercoaster that has been the transition from duo to solo artist, waiting patiently for songs to be written, a record to be made, songs and videos to be released. And that all elusive record with many assured timeframes of release followed by many pushes back. But I’m happy to tell you that thanks to WMG I get to leave you with a parting gift – A Woman Needs is finally going to be available for digital download (at all digital retailers) on March 16th.

The people in this community are the reason that I’ve loved doing my job. The people who have encouraged me continually through battles as well as achievements. The people at my shows, singing every word at the top of your lungs. YOU are why this career has been fulfilling to me. So for that, I can only tell you again – THANK YOU. I’ve appreciated you more than you’ll ever know, and have come to care so much for you. And the only regret I have in this decision is letting you down. Because you’ve never let me down.

I love music so much and I can’t imagine it not being a part of my life. And moving forward as a songwriter, I will hopefully be able to share my music through the voices of artists who DO have their hearts in what they’re doing. Of course I’ll miss being the one on stage seeing those smiling faces and always will. But I have memories to last a lifetime, and I’m at a point where I feel anything’s possible. I don’t think I’ve stepped on my last stage. But I know the stage is better left for others at this time.

I also realized I’ve had other passions and intrigues, some for a long time, others more recent. And I’ll have the opportunity to explore those now as well. It’s a new chapter for me. It’s not the end of the book, it’s just a new chapter. And it feels so nice to feel inspiration again.

So all that’s left for me to do other than begin writing the next chapter is to somehow try to express to you guys what you’ve meant and will always mean to me. But I don’t think there are words that make that fully possible. I just want you to know that you’ve meant so much to me, not just as an artist but as a woman. And you always, always will. And I don’t think this is the last time we’ll be in touch. Actually I know it’s not, because I’ve created an e-mail address just for you. :)

emailjessicaharp@gmail.com

Post any response you feel here, I’ll be sure to read it. But also feel free to e-mail me. I’ll check it, read and reply as my schedule allows. That doesn’t mean you won’t get a response, it just means don’t think you won’t if it takes me a little time. I’ve got a few irons in the fire now kitty cats. Oh, and I’ll still have my Twitter. And my YouTube Channel in case I decide to start a reality internet show from my living room or something. ;)

So now, with the support of my friends and family, my professional team and Warner Music Nashville…all I need is your blessing. And other than that, I only ask one other thing. My favorite thing about this group of people is seeing the bonds that have formed by people who may not have met otherwise. So after this site/board goes away (which won’t be immediately but I will let you know before it happens), promise me you’ll keep those bonds. And find another lucky artist to support, encourage and cherish the way you have me. And I tell ya, they’ll be damn lucky.

You are all beautiful souls and I love you. Thanks for being such a special part of my life. We’ll talk again.

Yours,
Jessica

Hmm, haven't done a Nashville Ink post for a while so I'm glad I came across these videos of Jessica Harp getting inked.

Kind of a cute little tattoo there.

Guess who I got to interview this morning

J harp_a_woman_needs#4A3DEF

And take a wild guess who failed to plug her equipment in the correct spot so that you could actually hear both sides of the conversation.  Hint, it wasn't Jessica Harp.

Ugh.

I had a great conversation with Jessica, just wish you could actually hear it.

Keith talks about a Keith Urban reality show and adoption

Keith_urban

Keith Urban talked with Catfish Hunter over on US 103.5 yesterday and talked about some of the rumors going around about him and Nicole, his tour and the big-ass jumbotrons, playing in hurricanes, and a Keith Urban reality show?  Check it all out here.

And while we're talking about Catfish Hunter, he also chatted with Jessica Harp.  Check out the video below.

Jessica Harp needs a little help

Harpies

Jessica Harp's getting a new website and needs some help deciding on a name for her new community and has decided to make it fun by turning it into a contest.

My vote is for The Harpies but that's just me.

Hi all!

I’m excited to tell you guys that around the end of the month, we will be launching a brand spanking new website and online community. The folks at WBR Nashville have been working hard and it’s going to be great!

Team Jess, as the administrators of the new community are called, needed to come up with a name for said community, and the J-Crew (haha!) is what we ended up with.

However, I ask you guys for opinions, and you are always willing to share. So, I decided to have a contest. Very easy:

If you have an idea for what the new community should be called instead of the J-Crew, post your idea in the thread in the Official section of the message board.

If your name is chosen, I’m going to give you an autographed iPod Shuffle, as well as my thanks for helping me name what is going to be our new place to hang out!

The contest starts today and ends Friday, June 19th. Feel free to post as many ideas as you wish!

Can’t wait to see what y’all come up with!

Yours,

Jess

P.S. Updated schedule with new additions for CMA Fest next week coming soon! Also, if you’re on Twitter, make sure to follow @wbrnashville and turn device updates on so you can get tweets and win prizes. Hope to see many of you next week!

Is there a Wrecker rivalry going on?

I'm needing some good drama today so I will create my own.  Ex-Wreckers Jessica Harp and Michelle Branch both have new albums coming out soon and both debuted their new videos within a day of each other.  A good career rivalry never hurt anyone.

Yes, I'm just making stuff up but you have to admit it would spice things up a little.

Jessica Harp premiered her video for Boy Like Me today.

And Michelle's video for This Way made it's way onto the internet yesterday.

Jessica Harp goes digital

Bf_60098_2

Starting today you can get Jessica Harp's new single Boy Like Me through all digital outlets (iTunes and Amazon at bottom of page).  She will also be hosting a Q&A this Friday, the 13th at 9pmEastern/8pm Central on her website. You can get more info about how to join the chat on her blog at JessicaHarp.com!

Jessica blogs...

Well, today is the big day! Y’all can finally hear my first single via iTunes.

I’m super excited to start getting feedback…but also now feeling the nervous feeling of putting something you’ve worked so hard on out into the world and know that now it’s out of your hands…people will love it, like it or hate it. ;)

I imagine the nervous feeling will become even more intense when it hits radio. I guess when you’re so proud of something, you just hope that people will find the enjoyment of listening as much as your own enjoyment of creating and playing. Excitement and nerves. It’s an odd feeling. But here we go! Now I’m just ready for y’all to hear the whole record! Patience never came naturally to me, I’ve had to learn. :)

Now, for my Message Board pals (and anyone else who might want to join), Miss Weiser and I will be hosting the live Q&A this Friday, the 13that 9pmEastern/8pm Central. I’ll be able to hang for an hour or two. For those of you who have participated before, remember my responses are delayed because I try to answer many questions with each post if there’s a larger turnout! So please be patient with my typing speed, and I’ll let you know when I’m done for the night. Hope as many of you can join us as possible!

Since the video release has been moved back, I’m planning to do another chat after it comes out so if you can’t make this one, hopefully you can make that one. My schedule will get busier as the year goes on, but I’m going to do my best to still have chats here and there…I like being able to talk to you guys and answer anything you might be wondering. Or just comments are cool too. Feedback and questions. It’s fun for me. So stay tuned for future chats!

Ok, I think that about wraps it up for the day! I’m going to be one of those geeky people who goes and pays to download her own single. Just like I’ll actually buy my record the day it comes out. Hey, I did it last time because it’s supposed to be good luck…and I think we did ok…right?

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day to all you lovers out there. And for all the singles, feel free to wear all black and boycott the day like I used to do.

XO,

Jess
