Mohegan Sun says Jamey Johnson has some personal issues

Jamey johnson
Well this is certainly an odd way of announcing a show cancellation. Usually when a star has to cancel a concert, the announcement says it's due to a scheduling conflict or something equally vanilla like that.

The Mohegan Sun in Connecticut made the following announcement recently about Jamey Johnson cancelling his show this Friday:

Due to some unforeseen personal issues, Jamey Johnson has cancelled his scheduled performance for August 17th. Mohegan Sun apologizes for the inconvenience and has replaced the performance with Neal McCoy who will be doing a second performance in addition to their August 16th show.

Wolf Den performances are free and open to the public. Must be 21 years or older to attend.

For more information on the Wolf Den and other great events at Mohegan Sun, visit mohegansun.com.  For information on this week’s schedule, call the Entertainment and Special Events hotline at 1.888.226.7711, ext. 27163.

Well shoot, now I'm curious what kind of personal issues Jamey's having. It's probably something simple like a birthday party he has to attend or something, but saying the show is canceled due to personal issues makes it sound all psychiatric and makes me wonder even more. Way to suck me in with your curiously worded statement, Mr. Mohegan Sun.

Jamey Johnson announces plans for next album

Jamey Johnson
I was beginning to wonder when Jamey Johnson was going to get around to releasing a new album, and now we know.

Jamey Johnson's next album won't be a solo effort, but rather a collaborative celebration of Hank Cochran’s music with Jamey singing duets with some really big names.

“Livin’ for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran” will include artists such as Willie Nelson, George Strait, Alison Krauss, Elvis Costello and many others, each singing a duet on one of Cochran's biggest hits with Johnson. The album will hit stores September 25 on vinyl and October 16 in all other formats. The album will feature 16 tracks.

Cochran passed away in 2010 at the age of 74.

Full (AKA really, really long) press release after the jump.....

Will you please adopt Jamey Johnson?

Jamey Johnson the pooch
Meet the little dog with a really big name.

Little Jamey Johnson -- yes, that's his name -- is an 8-year-old Shih Tzu that was dumped off by his owners at a shelter in Texas.

The ad telling about Jamey the Shih Tzu is over a week old so it's possible he may have been adopted already (let's hope), but if you'd like to find out for sure, you can visit this ad where there's a phone number.

Maybe you can find out the story of how such a little dog got such a big name.

Jamey Johnson and LeAnn Rimes make some rowdy and beautiful music together

LeAnn Rimes is so often in the tabloids and all over the internet for her skinny body and itty bitty bikinis TwitPics that it's sometimes easy to forget that she's got one hell of a set of pipes on her.

Here's a happy little video to help us remember.

LeAnn and Jamey Johnson sang together for the very first time (or at least that's what the video description says) at the Myrtle Beach House of Blues recently and pretty much brought the house down.

Enjoy.

Alabama jury may just be learning to hate Jamey Johnson

Jamey Johnson

Most people who like country music seem to like Jamey Johnson.  He's old school and a great singer with a distinctive sound, he cowrote Honky Tonk Badonkadonk, and has an epic beard.

What's not to like?

Well an Alabama jury may just be able to answer that question.

Back in June I had told you about how a few country singers might have to testify in an Alabama gambling corruption trial.

Well turns out there was one more singer who wasn't mentioned in the original list of country stars....Jamey Johnson.

Turns out Jamey's been annoying the jury for nearly five weeks now - or at least one of his songs has been.

Nearly every single day for five weeks straight the jury has had to listen to portions of Jamey's hit In Color because the song just happened to be Ronnie Gilley's ring tone on his cell phone, a cell phone that was wiretapped and has been used as evidence during the trial.

So for over a month sometimes multiple times a day the jury, the judge, the attorneys, the defendants, and anyone else in the courtroom has had to listen to In Color on repeat.

Lobbyist Jarrod Massey had to testify and said he was getting tired of hearing the tune.

Defense attorney David McKnight said, "We agree on that."

Let's just hope the government doesn't get wind that country music seems to work as a torture device when used on repeat.

concert review: Kid Rock/Jamey Johnson

Listen, I hate to be harsh on an artist I adore....(I really do) BUT if I'm going to be honest here (and I assume people want me to be).....Jamey Johnson was a total let down in concert. He didn't speak to the crowd (at all), and I've learned (through the Nashville grapevine) that the reason for that is he was too drunk to talk and afraid he'd say something he'd regret if he opened his mouth. Even his music was off, which confirms the drunk rumors. ah, it was sad! I have so much respect for Jamey as an artist, and I'll love him no matter what, but I just really wanted to see a good show.

Now for Kid Rock!!! Do we even call him country? I'm not sure. I don't think he considers himself country at all. In fact according to his songs he mixes hip hop, blues, rap, and country into his own brand of kick ass music. From start to finish, he didn't miss a beat. The man can play every instrument on stage, very well I might add. His energy and his love for the fans came through every time he spoke to the crowd. He was amazing, generous, talented, kick ass, and humble all rolled in to a 2 hour performance!!! freaking awesome show :)

2010 Country Music Award Predictions

Although another name for the awards could be called `2010 Miranda Lambert Awards`  Let`s get it started:

Brad-carrie-logo-AS10-hdr

Entertainer of the Year : Brad
Lady Antebellum
Miranda Lambert
Brad Paisley - winner
Keith Urban
Zac Brown Band

Let’s start off with the big one, the one that everyone looks out for.  And for the first time in a while, the line up looks different.  3 first timers make the list (Lady A, Miranda, and Zac Brown), and although they all did extremely well this year, I don’t think this is their time.  Brad Paisley is long overdue for the award, and it looks like he’s going to finally take it home.  However, I feel that Carrie should have been nominated and could have won it.

Female Vocalist of the Year : Miranda2
Miranda Lambert - winner
Martina McBride
Reba McEntire
Taylor Swift
Carrie Underwood

As opposed to the Entertainer of the Year category, this category is exactly the same, with most of the women having great years.  Martina probably had the least impact this year, and we can count her out.  Taylor: what to say about her.  She a worldwide phenomenon, however, she was pretty laid back for most of the eligibility, so she’s probably not going to win either.  That leaves us with Reba, Miranda and Carrie, and although Reba had a great year, she didn’t have the same success that Carrie or Miranda had.  And with the critical and commercial success she had this year (along with 9 nominations), it’s looking as if Miranda has the greatest chance of winning.
