Emmylou Harris being investigated for hit and run

Emmylou Harris YouTube
The gray-haired beauty that is Emmylou Harris is unfortunately in a bit of trouble in California.

According to TMZ, back in October someone allegedly hit a car on the Los Angeles freeway and then took off. Now we've learned that the someone being investigated is none other than Emmylou Harris.

Law enforcement sources tell us ... the alleged incident occurred on October 1 at around 10:00 PM.  They say Emmylou was driving a rental car on the 405 Freeway when she struck a car and took off without stopping or exchanging info.

We're told the CHP opened a hit and run investigation after the other driver filed a report.  The investigation is now complete and we're told the file was sent to the D.A., who will decide if the country legend should be prosecuted.

Luckily no one was injured in the accident and Emmylou's rep says it was just "minor traffic accident," adding "she unintentionally rubbed bumpers with another vehicle," something that, "happens everyday on the 405."

Which is probably true, but it's still against the law to take off without exchanging info anytime property damage occurs. Emmylou has apparently turned the matter over to her insurance company.

Since no one was hurt it seems kind of silly to be talking about prosecution, but I guess breaking the law is breaking the law no matter how minor the incident.

So does this mean I should stop playing bumper tag with people who piss me off in traffic? Nahhhh.

Emmylou Harris to battle Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, and Kellie Pickler for title of sexiest vegetarian celebrity

Emmylou-harris-09
Hoping to steer fans towards a kinder and gentler -- and considerably less yummy -- way of eating, PETA is once again running their annual Sexiest Celebrity Vegetarian contest and once again several country ladies have made the cut including Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Shania Twain, and Emmylou Harris.

Just to be fair and because I couldn't pick between these four, I think I'll vote for Michelle Pfeiffer because that woman is amazing for any age, and to think she's 54 years old just totally floors me.

You can vote on PETA's website until June 27th with the winners announced June 28th.

Oh, and no, there were no country fellas on the list....probably because all the country guys tend to hunt, kill, and grill their meals on a regular basis.  I think I may just have to run my sexiest meat eater contest again this year. What do you think?

All For The Hall California benefit concert review

P1090762-1

Last week Vince Gill, Emmylou Harris, Dwight Yoakam, Melissa Etheridge, and Chris Isaak all took part in a very intimate and exclusive All For The Hall benefit concert in L.A. and I was lucky enough to be offered a ticket to send one of my awesome Gab correspondents.  From the review and pictures Victoria sent, I'd say it was a great show and a memorable event for all involved.

This is a very long review with a lot of pictures so I'm going to cut it off about halfway thru.  You can check out the rest after the jump.  Enjoy.  And be sure to click the wonderful pictures to enlarge them.

All For The Hall October 1, 2009, Club Nokia, Los Angeles

Shannon – I signed a photo release document.  I’m assuming that it is a “standard”.  CNN and FOX were there.  It wasn’t jammed with media but a nice representation.  I signed-in and went to the 4th floor where we were to gather.  The gal who sat down next to me was also a last minute substitution for David Mills of FrontRowNews and AllAccessVIP.  We chatted and found out that we both retired from the City of Los Angeles and crossed paths at the Los Angeles Police Department in the late 1970s.

Sooooooo

What was the event. From the CMHOF web site:

All for the Hallis the Museum’s first-ever non-bricks-and-mortar fundraising initiative.  The campaign addresses the not-for-profit educational institution’s need for long-term financial security and provides a safety net for its work.  Through an aggressive exhibit schedule, scholarly publications and hundreds of school and family programs, the Museum teaches its audiences about the enduring beauty and cultural importance of country music.

Vince, Emmy Lou, Dwight, Kara DioGuardi, and James Dentonarrive at the pre-show press area.

Interviews

Vince Gill, President, Country Music Hall of Fame Board – The event is to raise money for the Country Music Hall of Fame Foundation, to be sure that the Hall continues in its mission of documenting the history of Southern country music in America – traditional and contemporary.

Vince is busy with this event, touring, and recording some new music.

Guitar Pulls are informal getogethers of songwriters where they can enjoy doing what they do.

Vince loves satellite radio.  You can listen to exactly what you want to listen to.  It is an interesting time for radio as commercial radio has fewer listeners, satellite radio is giving more choices.

Vince’s shirt says ”Change your thinking; Change your world”

Tonight is a gathering of people who love this music and want to help the CMHOF.  The HOF houses everything in country music from the 1920s forward and documents what went on.  The All For The Hall premise is to ask everyone in country music to perform 1 night for free and donate what their fee would be to the Hall of Fame.  Keith Urban and friends (Vince Gil, Faith Hill, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Little Big Town, Taylor Swift, and Brad Paisley – live streaming on Oct. 13 on the CMHOF web site) will be doing a big concert in Nashville on October 13 to benefit the CMHOF.

Dwight Yoakam- In his opinion the CMHOF is the best museum of a particular genre of music.  It has great cataloging efforts and maintains an excellent collection of material items. Dwight admonished all museums to collect and catalog.

Museums such as the CMHOF save the past so that new generations can see and hear what went before them and learn everything that is right with country music.

Emmy Lou Harris – Guitar Pulls are a long tradition among songwriters primarily.  Everyone would sit around, pass around a guitar, and sing their music.  It was about sharing and being generous and not being afraid to show what they do.

In Nashville everyone knows everyone and you never know who is going to get together or who might show up.

Emmy Lou’s daughter and 6-month old granddaughter, Prudence, were there.  She let me take pics but didn’t pose.  Prudence stole the show.

Read more and see all the pictures after the jump...

Kix and Emmylou to the rescue

6a00e552403d2f883300e554e505118833-800wi Kix%20brooks

Nashville's mayor needs help and Emmylou and Kix are just the people to give it to him.

Mayor Karl Dean has put together a 46-member Music Business Council which the mayor says will help keep the Nashville's "Music City" moniker intact.  And what better way to ensure things go right than to get two music greats on board.  That's where Emmylou Harris and Kix Brooks come into play - they've both signed on to be part of the mayor's special panel.

The panel is expected to advise on initiatives including the construction of a downtown amphitheater, the expansion of the CMA Music Festival, the creationof a new, non-country festival and the enhancement of music education.

With a name like The Happy Wag you are required to take a listen

Emmylou_harris-280x210Emmylou Harris stopped by The Roanoke Times for a chat and I love the fact that the section of the paper that her interview appears in is called "The Happy Wag" section.  How cute is that name?

Yeah, I'm easily pleased.

Anyway, Emmylou talks about the birth of her new granddaughter, her new (or rereleased actually) album, and of course her backyard dog rescue.

I also dug up the video that Emmylou talks about where she sings Wild Horses for the first time ever in public at Merlefest.

Emmylou Harris helps out man's best friend

Bio_img_gunnar

Emmylou Harris will be appearing tomorrow, Friday, April 17, on Discovery Channel's "DogTown"trying to get help for a dog named Gunnar (above) who likes to bite.  You can read Gunnar's bio here. From the email I just got about tomorrow's show.

Music star Emmylou Harris calls for help with a vicious shepherd mix named Gunnar, leaving animal behavior specialist Sherry Woodard only a few days to come up with a plan to overcome his aggression.  Theresa, an abandoned pit bull, has a mysterious mass in her belly.  The dog has a history of skin cancer, so vet Dr. Patti Iampietro must do exploratory surgery to see if the cancer has spread internally. The unlikely combination of boisterous trainer John Garcia and painfully shy Little Girl proves rewarding for both, as John teaches the Catahoula leopard dog mix to trust the world — one person at a time.

My daughter watches this show faithfully so now I guess I have a reason to sit down and watch it with her.  How great is it that Emmylou has a shelter in her back yard?  I honestly learn something new everyday running this blog.  You can visit Emmylou's rescue called Bonaparte's Retreat here.

Emmylou says unchain that dog

Emmylou harris and doghouse

Emmylou Harris is worried about your dog and is urging pet owners to unchain their pets and bring them in the house in these cold months.

The country songstress has joined PETA in a new campaign to encourage dog owners to not only spay and neuter their pets, but to also bring their dogs inside when it's so dang cold outside.

Homelessness is not just a human problem. U.S. animal shelters must put nearly 4 million dogs and cats to death every year because of simple math: There are too many animals and not enough worthy adoptive homes. Millions more animals are condemned to a sad life of loneliness, isolated outside with no exercise or attention. Wintry weather means extra hardship for "backyard" dogs. Chained dogs often have nowhere to go to escape the cold and snow. They suffer from frostbite, exposure, and dehydration when water sources freeze.

This isn't the first time Emmylou has joined with PETA, she was part of a doghouse building campaign to get dogs a dry and warm place to sleep.
