Dwight Yoakam isn't mad at country radio for not supporting him

Dwight Yoakam's first album in seven years, "3 Pears" is brilliant.  I was hoping that we (country radio) would embrace it and play it.  Fortunately for Dwight, the album sold without needing airplay so I believe there was little push from the label.  How does Dwight feel about the lack of support from country radio?  I asked him...

Broadway: Are you disappointed or hurt at all that country radio hasn't really gotten behind you?

Dwight Yoakam: I've been really, really fortunate. I had a lot of success. Country radio has been great supporters of my music and I'll always support country radio when asked. We're doing interviews like this all the time at country radio stations. I really think that country radio has become a very diverse format. So when you say country radio, I think Americana radio is also transcending the boundary and they're both commingling at times.

Kristin Chenoweth talks about her cooter smash with Dwight Yoakam

 

When I heard that Dwight Yoakam was going to be on Chelsea Lately recently I have to admit that I worried for his safety because Chelsea can be downright dirty. 

Which is why I like her. 

Then I watched the video and it ended up being Kristin Chenoweth doing the interviewing and I was more than a little relieved. 

Then Kristin started singing The Muffin Top Song and talking about her smashed cooter and it was all downhill from there.

The best thing you'll see all day -- video company creates animated video for Dwight Yoakam's new song 'Waterfall'

This is so perfect!

I was over on YouTube looking for video of Dwight Yoakam on 'The View' this morning when I just happened to come across this animated video a company called Media One Concepts had created for Dwight Yoakam's song Waterfall from his new album '3 Pears'.

This really needs to be the video for this song. It's so wonderful!

The funny thing is, the company did this as a sample video and is in no way connected to Dwight.

I think the fact that the company did this as a sample without being paid makes it all the better.

Dwight's new album '3 Pears' is due for release on September 21 and a little over a month later he'll head to Australia for a string of shows.

Rolling Stone gives fans the first listen to Dwight Yoakam's 'A Heart Like Mine'

Rolling Stone is giving fans their first chance to hear a new song from Dwight Yoakam's upcoming album '3 Pears'. 

The album is the first for Dwight in seven years and is set to be released September 18th. 

From Rolling Stone:

Dwight Yoakam is preparing to release 3 Pears, his first new studio album in seven years. Since his last record, the country pioneer has continued to explore soul, folk, pop and rock to further define his Americana spirit. Yoakam produced the entirety of 3 Pears, but he brought in some unexpected help on two tracks: Beck, who co-produced "A Heart Like Mine" and "Missing Heart." "When you sit there with a guy who channels David Bowie meets David Gates meets Jim Morrison, you say 'OK, Beck, if that's your opinion of my electric guitar playing then we'll stay with it,'" Yoakam tells Rolling Stone.

On "A Heart Like Mine," Yoakam reaches for love, reflecting on the inner workings of his heart with yearning calls and an energetic punch. "I tried to encourage him to just let it have his personality and just be what it is," Beck says.
