Dolly Parton joins other celebs in insuring her most valuable body part(s)

Dolly Parton's twins

When you think of Dolly Parton, what do you think of besides her wonderful music?

If you're like most people, you probably think of her wigs and her breasts.  She's definitely famous for both.

Well Dolly's a smart business lady and she's not taking any chances with her world famous boobs.

According to an old report that I stumbled on recently, Dolly has joined the ranks of celebrities who insure their most famous body parts by insuring her...ummm....twins against fire, flood, and act of God.

I kid, I kid, but she has insured her famous breasts for an amazing $600,000.

I'm not sure what Dolly thinks will happen to her ladies, but I guess if times get tough she can always have some sort of unfortunate brassiere accident.

Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah's "Joyful Noise" finally gets an official trailer

A few days ago I had your first look at Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah's church choir movie "Joyful Noise" with a little crappy-quality video I had recorded from my TV on my cell phone camera from Entertainment Tonight.

 I know, totally covert.

Fortunately the official trailer has finally hit the web so we get a much better look at the movie.

And it definitely looks funny.

"Joyful Noise" will hit theaters January 13, 2012.

Dolly Parton's tour bus nearly causes an international incident

Dolly Parton tour bus

Dolly Parton's heading to Australia in November for the much anticipated Australian leg of her Better Day World Tour, but after difficulties with local officials regarding her tour bus, the tour nearly ended before it even got started.

Back in July, Dolly's camp sent in the permit paperwork that goes with staging a tour, and that included bringing along two tour buses.

That's when the government red tape began.

Apparently Dolly's safe-for-American-travel tour bus didn't meet Australian road rules because it was too wide, too long, too heavy, and the door opened on the wrong side, meaning it open into traffic in the left-side-of-the-road driving country.

Dolly's people put their foot down and basically said no buses, no Dolly.

That's when federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese realized the money the country would lose if they lost Dolly's tour.

"This was a practical example of what happens when you have different sets of rules across eight states and territories," Mr Albanese said. "Sometimes, rules are there for a reason. But commonsense tells you Dolly Parton touring here is good for her fans and the economy."

So Mr. Albanese went to work.

After two months of bureaucratic bullsh**, he buttered up roads officials sufficiently and finally this week all the paperwork was in place for Dolly to hit Australia in a cloud of pink outfits, perky wigs, and pure awesomeness.

And Dolly's got a message for her Australian hero, "Dolly and her people are very pleased to hear the bus is coming and it's all sorted and has promised Minister Albo a huge cuddle when she comes to Australia in November."

That's our Dolly, big enough to get an entire country to bend their road rules for little ol' her.  I'm so proud.

Drag queen turns British lady into total drag queen Dolly parton

European Dolly parton makeover
Okay, once you stop laughing there is actually a serious story behind this picture.

No worries, I'll wait.

Waiting.

Fine.  Moving on....Iris is a British lady who decided to come to America to fulfill a list of her 20 American Dreams in 60 days.  She's got a fun blog and everything.

One of Iris' dreams was to meet Dolly Parton, but not just meet her...to meet Dolly as Dolly.

So she did what any normal person would do who wanted to meet Dolly as Dolly.

She enlisted the help of a drag queen.

Ruby Holiday: drag queen and makeover miracle worker agreed to help – and within 30 minutes I was blonde, my cheekbones were lower, my lips had doubled in size and my eyelashes were so long they cast a shadow on my face. My own mother wouldn't recognise me – but Dolly's would.

With a smile literally plastered on my face, I was on my way.

When I asked a man on the train for directions, he jumped out of his seat. But once I'd arrived at the concert and the sun started to go down, people were crossing the road to have their picture taken with me, not to run away.

But Dolly's opinion was what mattered. So when I got to the front and I managed to catch her eye, I thought she'd mistake me for herself and invite me up on stage. Instead she looked scared. The look in her eyes told me she probably would have crossed over the road to avoid me herself.

I had out-Dollyed Dolly.

The story is so funny.  The fully Dolly story is here (with more pictures), but you really should take a look at Iris' full blog, it's worth the read.

So does anyone else find this 3-year-old wearing fake Dolly Parton boobs a bit disturbing?

Baby dolly

I'm not generally a prude by nature, but I guess I do draw the line somewhere - and I think I may have just found my line in the sand.

I don't watch Toddlers & Tiaras on any sort of regular basis but have caught an episode or two in the past when the remote's been lost and I just didn't feel like looking for it.  I'm a little wigged out by all the makeup the kids wear, but you know, to each their own.

But putting fake boobs and a fake butt on a 3-year-old (or maybe 4, I've read different stories) kid so she can play Dolly Parton on stage?...yeah, I may have just found my prude point.

Dolly Parton enters the Twilight Zone of Dolly collections

Dolly obsession

Wow, these guys really love them some Dolly Parton.

I mean they LOVE them some Dolly Parton.

Dolly appeared on TLC's My Collection Obsession last night and was left speechless by these fellas and their rather large devotion.

Dolly Parton talks about how she'd like to croak

Dolly-parton interview

So if a star dies on stage and can't finish their show, do you suppose the people in the audience would get a refund?

Well some lucky (?) fans someday might find out the answer to that very odd question if Dolly Parton has her way.

Dolly, 65 and young as ever, says she's thought about how she'd like to meet her inevitable end and if she gets her way it'll be in front of a bunch of fans.

She says in a recent interview, "I plan on falling dead on stage someday, but not yet."

You know, I've never gotten to see Dolly perform live, but if I ever do I sure hope it's not the day she finally gets her wish.

One reporter seems slightly miffed with Dolly Parton's lip synching

Dolly Parton
Photo via www.facebook.com/DollyParton

Dolly Parton lip syncs during her concerts?  Hmmm, who knew?

Well apparently Dolly does - or at least she's accused of it - and this reporter from Minneapolis was more than a little irritated that he didn't get the totally live show he was expecting....no, demanding.

With Dolly Parton, it’s always been a blur of illusion and reality. Everyone knows about the illusion of wigs, plastic surgery and drag-queen makeup. But everyone accepts the storytelling, songs and voice as real.

In theory, anyway. But not in reality Wednesday at the instantly soldout Mystic Lake Casino showroom. Dolly turned on her rhinestone-studded Tennessee mountain charm, filled the room with her indomitable, positive spirit and lip-synced more than she sang live. Heck, she even faked playing several instruments including fiddle, saxophone, harmonica and piano.

Sheesh, you'd think someone had just told him Santa wasn't real.  I don't know, I'm not at all opposed to lip synching since I get more excited about seeing the person in the flesh than I do about what's coming from their lips, but I know that a lot of folks do feel betrayed by the whole L business.

Has anyone else out there ever noticed a country star faking it in concert?

You can read more of the angry reporter's story here.

Dolly Parton's theme park accused of descrimination

Dolly parton gay Dolly Parton has always been an icon not only in the country music world, but the gay and lesbian community also. That's why this story seems so unfortunate.

A lesbian couple, Olivier Odom and Jennifer Tipton, decided to visit Dollywood's Splash Country water park recently with some friend's children for a little wet and wild fun in the sun, but before entering the park Olivier was asked to turn her t-shirt inside out because the park official felt it might offend some other park goers.

The offending t-shirt is sold to raise money for an organization that promotes gay marriage and reads "marriage is so gay."

Olivier did as the park monitor asked because she didn't want to ruin the kids' fun, but now she and her partner are questioning the park's policies.

What they particularly found odd was that other t-shirts - including ones with the Confederate flag - weren't singled out.  Dollywood says it leaves it to the park monitors to decide if something is offensive or not.

Which kind of makes it a slippery slope.  I mean I find gorilla-jealousy-inducing amounts of back hair unappealing, but should hairy people be required to wax before enjoying the water slides?  Probably not.

The couple has now written a letter to Dollywood saying, "To ensure that your customers are not treated this way in the future, I would like to see Dollywood: implement policies that are inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people; conduct staff sensitivity training; and issue a public statement indicating that the park is inclusive of all families,"

Dollywood says they will be reaching out to Odom and Tipton to discuss their complaint...and probably to offer a few free tickets to the park for future use I'm thinking.
