Once upon a time, Carly Simon did a similar thing. In 2003, Carly auctioned off the culprit’s name that inspired her song, "You're So Vain", for $50,000, with the condition that the winner not reveal who it is.
I asked Taylor if she would consider doing the same thing for charity.
Me: You know who Carly Simon is, right? You’re a pretty big fan?
TS: Absolutely.
Me: You’ve heard the story about “You’re So Vain?” How she only told one person who the song is about?
TS: Yeah, it’s legendary.
Me: If someone offered to donate a large lump sum of money to charity, but only if you would reveal who ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ is about, would you tell us?
TS: If it was like a stupid amount of money. How much did Carly go for?
Me: $50,000
TS: I feel like it would need to be like..six figures.
Me: So, we’ll start at $100,000?
TS: Yeah, and it would be for charity and I would tell one person and they wouldn’t be allowed to tell.
Me: Would they have to sign a confidentiality agreement?
TS: Yes.

I feel like she's getting a little up herself.
