Hmmm. I've seen the previews for Shania's new reality series on Own (unfortunately I missed the debut last night) and I had heard her say that she had lost her voice, but I figured she just meant that emotionally she had lost her will to sing, not that she had actually lost her voice in a more literal sense of the word.
Shania chatted on the phone on Friday with Lisa and Ray from Chicago's US 99.5 about Oprah, being at CMA Music Fest this year, her new book, why she decided to open her private life to her fans with a reality series, and of course losing her voice.
Shania says about losing her voice, "This is a real work in progress for me. It is a rehabilitation period. I started the process of discovering what's wrong with my voice and what to do about it just very, very recently."
When asked whether it was emotional and not physical, Shania cleared things up.
"It's a combination of things. It is a progressive condition. It's called dysphonia...it has an official name. It's a combination of physical and emotional tension. The muscles around the larynx literally constrict the voice box, so it's not the vocal cords, the vocal cords are in perfect condition, there is no reason why I shouldn't be able to sing again, of course I'll be able to sing again."
