There are a few people in music who bug me just because they exist in a realm where I actually have to hear about them despite the fact that I would never listen to their music. Justin Bieber is one. I mean really, this is a teeny bopper sex symbol? If I have to read one more thing about what type of "woman" he wants to date I think I might just stab my eyeballs out with a pencil.
Ke$ha is another. Her music isn't horrid I suppose, although I have to admit the only song I've ever purposely listened to is TiK ToK (if you've never heard the song, check out a short but entertaining video of Israeli soldiers dancing to it here). It has nothing to do with her music, it's just her. Maybe in a past life she pissed in my Post Toasties or maybe it's the fact that she spells her name with a dollar sign.
Anyway, despite my personal feelings, I'm generally able to ignore those who initiate my gag reflex. Well I can ignore them until they decide that country music may just be their future home that is.
Ugh.
Yep, Ke$ha has now declared her love of country music and hinted at a possible country future.
As Johnny Cash rolls over in his grave.
The singer (the dollar sign one, not the Man in Black) tells Paper Mag: I'm really inspired by country music -- my mom wrote country music -- and I love Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash. I think at some point there might be some country collaborations or records in the future. But I'm also really digging being called, like half jokingly, a white girl rapper. I think it's really funny and I'm going to ride that train for a little bit.
So, in other words, she'll ride that train until the money runs out and then give country a try.
Let me tell you, I'm totally stoked.

It would make perfect sense to me for her to have some country interest. I know a bit of her story since I live in Nashville & have meet people how are personal friends of hers. She is the real deal. She grew up in Brentwood, 20 miles south of Nashville and was part of the music scene early in life. Really early seeing as how she is only 18. Not only did she like Johnny Cash's music, but her family had personal connections with his. As a music lover myself, her style is not my fav. although I do like her music, its just not at the top of my list. She is pure talent, not over produced radio junk...I think she'd do great at anything :) miss you Shannon

Considering her current musical style, I realize it can be hard to believe, BUT I think she would do anything but bad as a country singer. And I'll tell you why. ;-)
It's because I've listened to these older songs of her on Youtube. Just take 5 minutes to check out yourself if I caught your interest: "I'm the one", "Goodbye" and "Heart's on fire"
The last one is very obviously of a different genre as a whole, but if you listen to the sung chorus, you'll know why I mentioned it here.
And so, this is what Kesha in country music could sound like. I'd like that to happen.

I have no idea who this singer is but the insightful details of everyday life is why I visit the gab. I didn't realize they still made Post Toasties.

I hate that real country singers can't get deals anymore because the labels choose to sign people who are going through a "country phase". While I don't care for her at all I will at least cut her some slack since she grew up with a mother who was in country music. I beleive I heard her mother was even in Johnny Cash's band at one time, but I might be mistaken. I have heard Kesha talk about being around a lot of country artists when she was younger, so maybe she has a genuine love of the genre, but I still don't think I'll be the first in line to buy any of her cds.
