Danny Gokey's new Lady-Antebellum-boys written song

Alright guys, here it is...Danny Gokey's new song It's Only. 

So what's the verdict?  I personally really, really like it.  I must say that I stand corrected in thinking that Danny and country wouldn't mix.  It's a really great song and Danny has such a nice voice. And as I told you last night it was written by Dave and Charles from Lady A who did a great job.

I really like it too - the more I listen the more I like this song. Danny has the ability to make it seem like he is singing personally to you. He connects on a personal level.

Danny is bringing me back to country music. I used to listen alot but went awhile for awhile.

I really like this song. The melody grows on me each time I hear it, the message is superb (meaty not trashy). And the way Danny sings it? Soft yet very strong and powerful. Out of all the AI8 songs released so far, I think this song is the best. It represents Danny perfectly: the merging of his love of music and his love for others.

So excited of what's yet to come Danny's way! Wish him all the best. BTW, he just might be the "Daughtry" of this AI's season.

My thoughts excatly. Just another "artist" who knows nothing about country music, but quickly decides he loves it when realizing it's the most popular genre and other "stars" like Jessica Simpson and that Icarly girl can make a record- if they can make it in country music so can I!

Danny saying he "loves the message" of country music doesn't sound to me like any kind of country music hater.
The reference to his "not minding" a country album is, at worst, not a hater comment about country music. And it's not even a direct quote so I can't get too excited over parsing a paraphrase (possibly not even from a first-hand interview?) about what Danny said during a period of time when he was under instructions not to be overly chatty about his record deal interests and negotiations. Most of Danny's interview comments over the summer were very guarded anyway until he had the all-clear to reveal his deal.
That bothers me even less so when we're commenting here on the very page where the blog author who published that before, has taken an open-minded listen and is coming on record as favorably impressed by Danny's debut single.
Going back to the top here, 'I must say that I stand corrected in thinking that Danny and country wouldn't mix.'

American Idol contestant Danny Gokey was in Nashville last week meeting with country music record labels, including the same label that's home to Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler. Danny admits he doesn't really think of himself as a country artist, but he says he wouldn't mind recording country music because, "I love the message." He also thinks that artists like Carrie, Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts have, "brought a new taste to country, which I'd be more more interested in."

When has Danny ever said he doesn't like or respect country music? I don't imagine Danny would claim to be an expert in all aspects of country music since his earlier singing experience was gospel/church music (like how many very successful and sincere country acts today?).
Danny was completely respectful--not to say overcome by nerves--when he met Randy Travis during the AI season. He also chose several country songs to perform throughout his AI experience (including I Hope You Dance during the Hollywood week phase of AI, months before any of the shows aired).

This is exactly what I expected Danny's first single to sound like. This song is right in Danny's wheelhouse. A powerful ballad with great vocals and a beautiful message. Danny did not compromise who he is and what he is all about with this song and I respect him for that. He is staying true to himself. I also have a lot of respect for Mark Bright, Charles Kelley and Dave Harwood. Danny is working with some great people - can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Yuck! I don't like him. The song is not country. I sure do hope he does not take up valuable air space on country radio. If my local station plays it I will change it. Play Jake Owen, Eric Church, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser, Luke Bryan, or even Bucky Covington etc. etc. etc. Danny please go back to where you came from. Can I be the only one who remembers him saying he didn't like country music. Bad bad bad!!!!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect as they have been keeping Danny's recording process very very quiet since he's been in the studio with Mark Bright.
But I'm actually loving this song. It has a nice country sound, Danny's vocals are used well, and it's a song with a story/message that Danny can put his heart into.
Good job, Danny.
