Okay, I'm outta here for a while but check back tonight

Overload-your-trailer

Dang Mondays with my doctor who likes to talk for 10 minutes about sore throats and diarrhea and he does that on all 50 or 60 reports that get sent my way to type.  Oh well, it pays the bills. I love my job, just Mondays are quite often an overload day for me.  So I'm going to get started early so maybe, just maybe, I can get finished early. Keep your fingers crossed for me.  I have tons, tons, tons to talk about so be sure to check back tonight or tomorrow for loads of news.

And just so you know, the picture above is to illustrate how overloaded I feel on Mondays, not that I'm a jackass.  Haha.

Watch the entire Taylor Swift SNL

Untitled

Taylor Swift held the coveted position of host and musical guest for this week's Saturday Night Live.  Here's the entire video.  I must admit that I didn't watch on Saturday and I didn't watch the whole video below, but I'm sure Taylor did a great job.  What do you guys think who did watch?

Daughter and I did watch the Twilight parody and I did think it was funny. Enjoy.

Toby Keith "American Ride" review

Toby-keith-american-ride2

NashvilleGab reviewer, Jacob, gives us a great review of Toby Keith's "American Ride."

"Dream Walking", in my opinion, is easily Toby Keith's best album. When I really want to listen to some Toby Keith, that's inevitably the cd that's going to be played. However, "American Ride" is giving it a run for its money. Here, Toby hits the ground running with the title track, and he keeps it coming all the way through "Ballad of Balad". With most of the songs being co-written by himself and Bobby Pinson, there's a real consistency in the quality of song here, the rockers rock, and the tender ones break your heart.

The first single, and Toby's 19th number one, does one better than most of his heavy handed cultural indictments. It points a finger or two at everyone. You might say it's a "Fair and Balanced" attack of what makes Americans Americans. Were it not for the awkward chorus, this would be one of my favorite songs right now. Instead, that spot is left for "Woke Up On My Own", about a man that's ruined his love, but he didn't go get drunk or make the rounds with a handful of women, and he has no illusions about her forgiving him, he just woke up on his own. This type of song is Toby Keith at his best. Showcasing his excellent singing voice, utilizing his many writing capabilities.

Opening with just an acoustic guitar and a little jazzy saxophone, the second single "Crying For Me (Wayman's Song)" is obviously the closest to the heart on this collection, and it shines through. Earlier this year, Wayman Tisdale, a basketball and bass player, and friend to Toby Keith succumbed to cancer, and like "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue", this is Toby Keith at his most open, honest self. It's a heartfelt, mournful tune about not being sad for the ones we've lost, but for ourselves for losing them. Truer words rarely spoken.

My only gripe with this album is that it feels a little short. It took me a few listens to really get why that was, because each song is about as long as any average song. Save for a few songs here, it feels very disconnected. The lyrics are great, the melodies are infectious and creative, the production is tasteful and low key, but I cant help but feel like some how I cant really relate to them. Is there a disconnect being communicated between the singer and song? Or am I just not getting into it for my own reasons that I don't see? I wish I knew the answer to that, because despite it feeling short, I really do love this album.

Glenn Frey and Don Henley, Fred Rose and Hank Williams, and the most infamous team of Lennon and McCartney. They've all left a storied history of what can happen when two creative minds get together. Toby Keith follows this same example, only rather than fall into the rut that a lot of these writers have, he makes a point to change it up every few albums or so, before it gets too stale. First it was Chuck Cannon, then Scotty Emerick and Dean Dillon, and on this album he's teamed up with the excellent Bobby Pinson (whose two albums are worth the price and more themselves). His changing up co-writers has lead to his continued success, and surely will in the future. With "American Ride", he has definitely found his stride again, after a few stumbles on his last few albums.

Thanks Jacob for the great review.

Brandi's Blurbs - Miranda Lambert's "Revolution"

Miranda-lambert-revolution

NashvilleGab reviewer, Brandi, gives us a great reivew of Miranda Lambert's "Revolution."

Miranda Lambert, "Revolution"

May I just start off my saying its a kick ass CD from start to finish. Very few albums these days can pull that off. In an industry that is full of country-pop vs. country- contemporary vs. straight up Merle Haggard traditional, it is so very rare to find an artist who can maintain their own sense of self when making an album, and yet appeal to the masses. Miranda Lambert's 3rd album sets the record straight for anyone who would dare question her abilities as a true musician, artist, and songwriter.

Her songwriting and/or song choices for this album don't leave any topic unexplored. From love, to hate, cigarettes, guns, livin' like a gypsy, Jesus, political rants, she covers them all. I mean come on, if your gonna have a good country album you gotta talk about drinkin', Momma, and Jesus......and everything in between. It should come as no surprise that Ms. Lambert delivers. I don't think I could pick a favorite song off this album. There are so many great ones. Vocally my favorite has to be "Time to Get A Gun". She teams up with Chris Stapleton from "Steeldrivers" on this one. (Quick ADD moment.....besides Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton has the most beautiful, raw, authentic voice in music period. The first time I heard him sing, my jaw dropped to the floor in amazement). The two of them blend voices so well, vocal magic! Lyrically, "The House That Built Me" is the best. I was listening to it for the first time driving down the road (kids fussin' in the background) and I had to pull over and wipe the tears out of my eyes. Its a song about trying to find your way back home, in order to find yourself again. Beautifully written, and a heartfelt delivery! My favorite song to sing along with, hands down, is "A Heart Like Mine"....."I heard, Jesus, he drank the wine and I bet we'd get along just fine, he could calm the storm and heal the blind, and I bet he'd understand a heart like mine"....really, who can't relate to that....its a fun song!

So my rating......1-5....it gets a 6....ha! It is not an over-produced, rushed, industry style CD at all. It is straight from her heart, with a little extra kick ass included for good measure! Go buy the CD and enjoy!

Blake Shelton Plays Surprise Acoustic Show at Philly-Area Sports Bar

Here's another great story from my fellow blogging pal, Vicky.  Enjoy.

HPIM1975

Blake Shelton Plays Surprise Acoustic Show at Philly-Area Sports Bar

Fans got a very special treat on Sunday, November 1, when country superstar Blake Shelton gave a free performance at a sports bar in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, a suburb of Philadelphia.

The show, announced on Twitter on the Blake Shelton fan tweet www.twitter.com/BSersTweet and then by Blake himself, was sponsored by
a local radio station.

Blake tweeted for a few weeks prior to the announcement that he wanted to do a show in Philly where he could just sit on a barstool and "play for beer," and that's just what he did for the standing-room-only crowd that packed Taylor's sports bar. Set up on a small stage/lounge area in front of a big screen TV showing NASCAR highlights, you would have thought it was an open mic event, not a performance be someone with multiple number 1 records.

While a number of bar patrons had no idea the country star would be making an appearance  after the Eagles football game and before the Phillies baseball game, others (OK, me!) drove 150 miles each way for the show and arrived 5 hours early to make sure they got a good spot. Everyone had a great time.

Blake did a great acoustic set with no band. It was just him, his guitar, a barstool and a few beers. He seemed very comfortable in front of the small but lively crowd and based his set list on suggestions shouted from the fans he were packed in front of the small stage. Songs included old and new favorites, "Nobody But Me," "Some Beach," "The More I Drink," "Home," "I'll Just Hold On," 'Don't Make Me," "She Wouldn't Be Gone" and, of course,  "Austin."

And while I think of Blake as a singer more than a musician, this show changed that perception. I was very impressed with his guitar playing on every song, particularly the bluesy "Ol Red" and uptempo "Playboys of the Southwestern World."

I was also impressed with the crowd at Taylor's, who seemed to know every word to every song and weren't at all shy about singing along at the top of their voices!

If you ever get a chance to see Blake Shelton do an acoustic set in a small venue, don't hesitate, even if it is a 300-mile round trip. Believe me, it will be worth it!

LeAnn and her pole are doing just fine, thanks for asking

Leann-rimes-eddie-cibrian

It's Monday which means I'm swamped at work which means the blog gets neglected. Sorry guys.  I should have worked all weekend to get NashvilleGab up-to-date, but I'll be honest and let you know that I was totally and utterly lazy.  Sometimes it's fun to just lay on the couch and vege out.

I know you're jealous.

Anyway, I'll post a few things and then probably be gone the rest of the day.  Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that.

So what's LeAnn Rimes been up to lately you ask?  I know you've been asking.  Well Randy just emailed to let me know that she had posted to her website.

HELLOOOOOO
Hi guys! I'm so excited to have some down time after this week's CMA's! I'm so sorry this site has been a little out of order and I have been somewhat absent. This has been a crazy year, but it's starting to calm down and I'm gearing up for a great 2010! Please be patient, my team and I are getting a new site ready to go along with the launch of the new single very soon. I hope everyone is doing well. To update all of you and put your minds at ease, I'm healthy and happy. I hope to see you all very soon.
All my love as always,
Le

Awww, glad to see she's doing well.  So how does one healthy and happy girl spend a Friday night?

By pole dancing of course.  From People.com....

Observers spotted the carefree-seeming couple in the VIP section of XS nightclub, where they talked, laughed and knocked back tequila drinks. Though they stayed at the venue inside the Encore Resort for only 20 minutes, there was time enough for a PDA.

"They were making out at the table and didn't really care who saw them," a source says. Rimes, 27, wearing an off-the-shoulder black dress, even danced on one of the club's stripper poles before leaving just after midnight, the source said.

Well we all deserve a good pole dance now and then.  In fact, I could use a good pole dance right this minute.  Unfortunately I've only got my door jam that I could use to dance with and the neighbors tend to look at me a little funny when I dance in the doorway so I guess I'll leave the dancing to LeAnn.
