Sigh. Please don't shoot the messenger, I just post 'em as I find 'em.
Danny Gokey, the bespectacled third place finisher on last season's "American Idol" is apparently considering country as his musical outlet.
After listening to him butcher Jesus Take The Wheel on the show I'm more than a little blah about the prospect.
American Idol contestant Danny Gokey was in Nashville last week meeting with country music record labels, including the same label that's home to Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler. Danny admits he doesn't really think of himself as a country artist, but he says he wouldn't mind recording country music because, "I love the message." He also thinks that artists like Carrie, Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts have, "brought a new taste to country, which I'd be more more interested in."
Hey, whatever pays the bills I guess.
Here's the studio recording of JTTW Danny did. Strangely I couldn't find a video of Danny singing it on the show - of course I didn't spend that much time looking so that may have something to do with it.

DON'T GIVE A CRAP WHAT ANYONE SAYS,
DANNY IS GREAT,CAN'T WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE GIVES HIM A DEAL.

Seriously, I do NOT buy this guy as a country artist. It's bad enough that he didn't define himself as an artist during the show, and now, he just wakes up and thinks "Okay guys, I'm going country! Now I just have to focus on how to get that twang right and maybe they'll forget I ever said that I didn't know what the Grand Ole Opry is."
Oh Gokey, you never fail to amaze me with your antics. I just wonder how long you can keep up this kind of behavior before you get found out and burned.

I love Danny - I think he has the best voice of out of all the contestants on AI8. I think he would do great on a sort of country/pop crossover like Rascal Flatts. I doubt he would be able to follow the Carrie Underwood path. In fact, he himself has said that he doesn't have the right kind of voice or background to be successful at that type of country music. So, he is very humble and aware of his limitations. I wish him all the best and hope that it comes off and he makes some really good music.

Eugh! Yuck, he was one of the worst contestants last season on AI, I sure hope he doesn't go country... or if he does he falls flat on his face like Phil Stacey and Kristy Lee Cook did last year

Why is it that everybody think they can sing country. The only reason Danny Gorey want to try country is that where music is at right now so he thinks he can come to nashville and make it at country like Carrie has. To me she is the only one from American Idol that has make it. and I'm from Birmingham,Al where two of the winners are from. and one runner up.

Ever stop to think that maybe that song wasn't a good fit for his voice? He has the talent to sing country and if they, (meaning people who actually know how to judge talent and pick the correct songs) handle him right, he should have a bright future ahead of him.
