I have to confess that I have a huge soft spot for guys with tough exteriors. I love the guys a lot of people are scared of or the guys who have the reputation of being a major buttholeos. These are my boys. My hubby has made me this way. He's the boss at work who enjoys being THE BOSS, he's the redneck many people don't want to mess with, he's the type of guy who prides himself on being an ass and I love him for it because I know the truth. He's my teddy bear. So, because I've been married to this type of guy all these years I have a soft spot for the country boys with the not-so-nice reputations. Guys like John Rich and Toby Keith. Despite the negative stuff I might report, I do it just because I find it newsworthy, not because I actually have anything against them. Quite the contrary actually.
So that being said, I found this story amusing. Toby's apparently a little PO'ed because The Tennessean hinted that Toby was the bad guy in a recent article Ethan Hawke (the actor) wrote in Rolling Stone. The article talks about "an incident at Willie Nelson's birthday party/concert at Madison Square Garden in 2003 that details Kristofferson's slap down of an unnamed country star, who tells Kristofferson not to play his "lefty" stuff. According to Hawke, Kristofferson, who was in the Army, really calls out the singer for, insubordination, to keep it in military terms, and slays him in front of folks like Ray Charles and Norah Jones. The only clue Hawke gives is that the singer has a hit out about bombing America's enemies at the time. Cooper praises the piece and says he's not going to disclose the country singer either, but says it 'rhymes with Moby Teeth.'"
I'm not sure why this article would have Toby in an uproar, because really it just does't hit me as that bad, more amusing than anything. But apparently Toby's taking it a little more serious than one might think he would. He's even reportedly got his people questioning Rolling Stone over their fact-checking abilities. Keith doesn't deny being at the party, but he does deny things went down the way Hawke recalls it.
Well now he's gunnin' for Peter Cooper, the music writer for The Tennessean, and is hoping to confront him in the press room at the ACMs tonight. I'm a little scared for Peter Cooper, but must say I'm excited for the YouTube video and pictures tomorrow!
Update: Kris Kristoffererson wrote this message to both The Tennessean and Rolling Stone: "I'm deeply grateful and was profoundly moved by Ethan Hawke's generous and respectful story about me. I have to say, though, I have no memory of talking so tough to anyone at Willie's birthday party - least of all to Toby Keith, (if that's who the nameless star is), for whom I have nothing but admiration and respect. And contrary to what the college classmate said, I never was President of any class in college, or on the debating team, writing club, or played baseball. I hated politics and never ran for anything."
Not 100% sure that'll appease Toby or not, guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Go Toby! Kick his wimpy butt!!! I love guys that are willing to stick up for themselves!
