Kenny Chesney's concerts are generally big parties inside with even bigger tailgating parties going on outside. People expect it and they look forward to it. The problem is that some people party a little too hard.
Last summer's New England Country Music Festival is a prime example of people going a little too crazy at a Chesney concert. 76 (or so) people were detained by police after the concert and two girls died after hours and hours of partying in the parking lot of the concert. After it was all said and done it was found that many of the revelers didn't even have tickets to the concert, they were just there to tailgate. The two girls who died didn't have tickets to the concert.
Now one of the girl's parents, MaryAnn and Steven Davis, have appealed to Kenny Chesney to help them change the rules and stop all-day tailgating.
On what would have been their daughter's 21st birthday, MaryAnn said “I’m not trying to move mountains. Nothing’s going to bring her back. All I can hope for is we save another family from this pain.” They've started PACT or People Against Concert Tailgating and are trying to get the rules changed soon, hopefully before Kenny plays the festival again August 15.
The main thing the couple wants is "all parking lots in the area closed until at least two hours before concerts start, and for police to crack down on underage drinkers."
Well honestly, that sounds pretty fair. You can read more here.

As a parent myself, my heart goes out to this family and their loss. It's also natural to want to find blame when a loved one dies, but seriously Kenny Chesney did not raise those kids. Sure, let the cops work the underaged drinkers as they already do at many venues, but I'm sure each department is strapped for tax dollars to stretch for everyday expenses. It goes back to parenting.

I am sorry for their loss, but blaming it on concerts and not irresponsibility isn't right.

Agreed Nash4U!
Gab, you really got me going on this one! Great post! It makes me soooo mad that this family is trying to turn irresponsible drinking into a tailgating problem.
Some people need to look in the mirror. I just put up a post about this because I'm soooo fired up about it.

I don't think Kenny should stop his all-day tailgating because it happens all around at concerts, sporting events, etc. I think what many people need is just more information on what happens to your body as you down shots of liquor and wash it down with beer all day. It is terrible what happened but I don't see any reason why they should stop because most of the time it's responsible people having fun.
