Dolly's gettin' an honorary doctorate! Well actually this is her second - she got her first in 1990 from Carson-Newman College - but it's still pretty cool.
The University of Tennessee is planning on presenting Miss Dolly with an honorary doctorate of humane and musical letters during the College of Arts and Sciences spring commencement ceremony May 9. At least that's the plan. It has to first get final approval by the powers that be, although I don't suppose that'll be a problem, I mean who could deny Dolly?
This is only the second honorary doctorate ever handed out by the U. of Tennessee.
"Because of her career not just as a musician and entertainer, but for her role as a cultural ambassador, philanthropist and lifelong advocate for education, it is fitting that Dolly be honored with an honorary degree from the flagship educational institution of her home state," said UT-Knoxville Chancellor Jimmy Cheek in a statement.
