Lady Antebellum's story could have come out much different and could have just ended at a bar, a victim of a perceived pickup line.
The first time Hillary Scott met now bandmate Charles Kelley, it was in a Nashville bar. Hillary knew who Charles Kelley was and had heard some of his music online (oh the magic of the Internet). When they eventually ended up in the same Nashville bar, she decided to introduce herself.
"I just recognized him, and I kind of walked up to him and said, 'What's your name? You look so familiar,'" she told Dial-Global. "And he said, 'Charles Kelley.' And I said, 'Well, I really like what you do. I'm a fan, and I'm a singer-songwriter from here in Nashville.' So he goes, 'Well, you're a writer, huh? Well, let me get your number. We can get together and write songs.'"
Charles says that he made the offer of writing songs together, but he actually just wanted a date. Such a man thing, she says "songwriting," and he hears "lets hookup."
"We still to this day haven't been on that date yet," Hillary laughed. Which sorta squashes the perceived notion that she and Charles are dating.
So there you go, Lady A started out as a pickup line, sorta. or at least as a perceived one. Thank goodness it didn't just stay a misunderstanding.
