Have I ever told you that I'm lazy? Have I also told you that silly things can annoy the hell out of me?
Sigh.
I generally talk about the same people all the time and there tends to only be one of those people - okay, that sounds confusing, there's only one of their names I should say. One Tim, one Carrie, one Kellie, one Shania, and one Taylor, so if I mention just their first name you know who I'm talking about. Well now there may soon be two Taylors and that highly bugs me. Yeah, that would be my lazy side coming out.
Taylor Dayne was cool when I was in middle school and then she sort of disappeared, or my musical tastes changed, not sure which. Now she's competing on the new Gone Country (which debuts in January) and has come into the spotlight again. Participation in the show has made her see just how great country is and now she's considering a genre change.
Of course she is, who isn't thinking about dipping their toes into the country scene these days? I'm just curious, is country music like some warm, fuzzy blanket that once people try it out they don't want to stop? I wish so much there would be some star who would try it out (via a reality series, a duet, whatever) and be like "it's just not for me, thank you but no thank you."
Anyhoo, Taylor tells The Tennessean: "If you are looking at the charts, there would be nothing better to cross over (into) as an artist because I've crossed over every other genre except hip-hop."
"I come from the pop/dance world, but now I've taken this quite seriously because there is no pop/dance world left for me really, unless you are Rihanna or Britney (Spears). It gets back to the song, for me, and that is where I'm going to shine."
"If Hootie can do it, the Dayne can do it!" she says.
Yeah, I blame Darius Rucker's success for this. Damn you Hootie and your chart topping ways!

Back when I was a little smokey in jr. high I loved me some Taylor Dayne. 20-something years later, not so much. This, like Ms. Simpson's recent antics, reeks of a desperate attempt for a comeback. Having lived and worked in Nashville I can tell you without a doubt, she aint got a snowballs chance of making this work. What's worse is a failed reality show a few years ago in VH1 following her attempted dance music comeback. Needless to say, it didn't work...the show or the song. Stick to what you know.
